Small WinUAE problem, 8-bit scrennmodes gone.
« on: February 17, 2004, 12:16:06 AM »
The 8-bit picasso96 scrennmodes are gone when I use WinUAE.
The 16 and 32bit are still there. I have tried with  older winuae versions but that didn´t help. I think its a windowsproblem because I cant get 8-bit screenmodes in windows either. I have winxp home and a crappy SiS  integrated on motherboard chipset.
The thing is it worked 3 or 4 weeks ago so what have I installed that I shouldn´t have?
PS, Windows is evil, you can´t keep your configs and startup-sequence in memory like on a Amiga. :-x

I have uae running on XP pro. XP only has the option of 16 or 32 bits, but winuae can still have 8bits so this should not be your problem. Have you tried reintalling  picasso96? It is really easy to install so that would be worth a try. Are the screen modes missing in both the tab on winuae and Amiga screenmodes prefs? Winuae is give me fits with printing text and I can't seam to get it to work right. I hope this might help.

You can use 8-bit modes in WinXP by clicking on the advanced something(swedish windows, can´t be bothered to find the english names for stuff :-)) in screen prefs and then "show all modes".
Well I used to be able to do that, now it´s just 16-bit, 32-bit and two 16 colours modes that shows up.Thats why I belive some windows or driver update messed it up. I am positive that it is a windows problem, I haven´t changed the config of my UAE hardfile.
I want to run PersonalPaint in 8-bit RTG modes like I used to :boohoo:  :-)

You are right the advanced button does bring up the other screen modes. Have you tried updating the driver for your display in device manager? My information says:

Driver Provider: S3 Graphics, inc.
Driver Date: 11/7/2002
Driver Version: 6.13.10.1100

I too am use built in graphics. You might also try rolling back the driver in case some other software made changes to it.

Xerxes

Yea my XP only goes down to 16 bit...
but if i go through `advance` , click on `adaptor` tab, and click `list all modes` then i can choose any thing...

Have you got XP cursor installed?

A S/h geforce440  64Mb graphic card will only cost about twenty monetary units>

It´s not a card its  integrated on the motherboard :-)
I´m saving my money for a Pegasos or Aone, no point in throwing money at the pc. Of course I could by a fanless Radeon and use it in the pc till i get a real computer. I might by one anyway so I get video out.

Anyway I solved it now, it was something called SiS Systray that was the problem, i unistalled it and got my 8-bit modes back. The brain works much better after a nights sleep :-)
