Language use in the forums
« on: January 09, 2003, 07:42:38 PM »
This is yet another reminder that this forum is visited by young people as well as you late teeners.  Watch your language and act appropriately.  This is also not a place for lude jokes or behavior.  It's an Amiga computer site.

While I don't expect this will affect most of you, and the off-topic conversation is fully acceptable, I will take any appropriate actions necessary to keep the conversation level somewhere above the sewer.

This is not "censorship" (even if it is, so what).  You will EACH have to admit that under normal circumstances I let you people get away with murder in the forums (and news comments).  This is nothing more than STANDARD MODERATION.

I understand the subject of the links, and yes, it was funny.  The wording however is still unacceptable for a family-oriented site.

In a lot of ways, some of you truly are like a bunch of three year olds, testing "daddy" to see what you can get away with.  The other thread was locked.

Why do you feel it's OK to do things on this site that you would NEVER do in civilized face-to-face conversation?

looks like you had your lighter flame on a bit to high out on the scortch  :-o

anyway, Waynes right. Vulgar language is pointless, costly and unpleasant. thank you all and may youngsters one day (maybe budding history scholars) discover the Amigas truest potentials.
out of curiosity, who here is under 18?
be honest now,

@420dude,

We did a poll one time and a vast majority of our users are under 22 years old.  This explains the lack of maturity displayed by some.

Ah, good. It was locked. I was thinking there was
something wrong with my browser for not being able to find
the "reply" button.

 Is there some symbol around to show that the topic is locked
(not in the forum list I mean, but when you select from the
"top ten"-list)? Would be a nice touch to have the "reply"
button be replaced by a padlock for example, instead of the
button being completely absent.

Ah well, such is life I guess.

Ah come on Blitter, give the boss a break. The pornalizer is highly borderline also, and I nearly removed it myself. I wish people would understand that we do not like to be in a position to make a determination of if something should be removed. No matter what the content of a post that gets removed, someone will take offense. It has been said on many ocasions.

This is a family oriented site, please keep everything on a low G to PG rating. Anything PG13 or up will likely get removed.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

Sorry, I did not see that the other was locked.  I have edited my previous post.

It just didn't seem too offensive(the bird thread).  I mean there are more offensive words used on the radio and tv.  But, I understand what you're trying to accomplish.  The forums have become fairly childish at times.

I'm surprised there's that many people that young who've even heard of an Amiga.

@Wayne

Wayne, I totaly agree with you on this one as I think that sexism or things that can be perceived as such drives away more people than it attracts, in the long run.

...yeah, I was gonna say... it's kind of cool/weird that so many youn'uns are into an "older" machine like the Amiga. It's kind of like all these younger kids I've been running into lately that are all into 80s music...but they were BORN in the 80s!
