Unable to start FryingPan
« on: September 09, 2021, 07:40:18 AM »
I've just fitted a CD-RW and would like to try FryingPan and MakeCD.

I have downloaded FryingPan.lha (version 1.3.2) and it extracts and installs correctly. Double clicking the app icon just opens a load of text and the default tool is Multiview. I have experienced this in WinUae and on my real A1200.

Update: I manually copied one of included icons but now get 'Unable to open your tool 'FryingPan''

Is there a bug in this version or could I just have a faulty archive.

Looks like a similar issue to this post https://forum.amiga.org/index.php?topic=58844.msg738831#msg738831

Did you make an assign as stated in the readme ?

This program has attached installer script.
1) Please *DO* use it.
2) Please *DO* install this program over the old install
3) Please *DO* add an assign unless you know you don't need it.

and also this :
it is strongly advised to use native version of the fryingpan for any of the four
platforms (AROS, MORPHOS, OS3 and OS4), however OS3 version can be used as well
on MoprhOS and OS4 (if you feel like using it). do NOT mix binaries from different
architectures.

I have this in my user startup :
;BEGIN FryingPan
Assign ADD Libs: Applis:CD_Utils/FryingPan/Libs
;END FryingPan

Thank you. Yes, I checked the assign was created correctly by the installer and also verified it has been applied correctly by typing 'assign' in shell after a reboot.

I found an installer for 1.2 and it has the same issue. Maybe it doesn't like Scalos or something else in ClassicWB. I notice the othe thread is a problem with a pre-configured environment too.

Will carry on investigating...

The archives I have all install and run under a clean 3.2 install in WinUAE.

I don't know the specific thing which is preventing Frying pan from running in ClassicWB, but I suspect Scalos.

you can disable ScalOS at startup right (and load the WB instead) ?

I switched my loadwb to the version that comes with OS3.2 and FryingPan works.

I'm going to look at adding a script where I can choose specific parameters on boot if I hold one of the mouse buttons.
