Title: Tornado 3d version 3.0 On my setup is CRASHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: lempkee on December 02, 2003, 12:27:31 PM
Yep as the topic says, it crash and crash and crash.

I have owned this for years now and seriously i think i have used it for 3 hours max in 10mins rounds due to it wont work properly.

Anyone knows if there came a fix? , can it be because of that i use WOS with PUP emu? (t3d is a PUP prog)

I have read on the web that it doesnt work very well with CGX but heh i am using P96 and i get the same probs as described there..

it locks up, freeze and crash my system randomly but without a reason it seems.

any help or tips would be appriciated since i really want to use this power tool while i wait for real3d for a1/os4 or lw ppc :D

Open your case and push every card you have. Maybe there is a loose connection. Or try a fresh install of Workbench and a Tornado 3.0.

"Tornado 3D ThreeOh" was a biggest disappointment for me.  It never worked stable for a longer period of time.

The only expierence I got is:

- Install it again from scratch. Your Dongle MUST be connected to the Joystickport DIRECTLY, without a cable or switch between the port and the dongle.

- Later use it with the dongle DIRECTLY connected to the Joystickport, without additional cabling or a switch.

I made several tests and this really seems to be an issue. I guess there are bit-failures between the dongle and the port if you have anny longer cable between. And as Eyelight didn't want to give hackers a chance they dont give any information to the user about such bitfailures but do something destroing in the code (My guess!)

I could reproduce the following failure when I had a cable+switch connected during the installation:

"Do what ever you want, after about 80 mouse clicks the machine freezes."

Eyelight wanted to prevent hackers from breaking their software but effectively the prevented the honest users from using it! And they suddenly disappeared silently without a word.

I gor a used Lightwave (but still hell expensive), that was ahuge step forward, No PPC support and only poor GFX-board support but very stable and powerfull!

"as for the dongle , its directly attached and it crash as much with it on a cable as with no cable at all"

As I said, id makes a difference not only if you use it with or without cable but also if you installed it with or without cable on the dongle.

It really seems that you are lost if you did the install with a cable on the dongle.

Why don't you save out a copy of the Dongle's ROM, and then use the MMU on your 060 to capture any read/writes to the Joystick port and emulate the dongle!!! thatway you won't have to worry about it any more :-D
