Hi All,

Interesting thread. There are some crazy prices for some of these items - over $2000 for a C64...and someone paid for it! WOW.

Maybe not in the same league but this ebay auction I found is for a phase 5 233Mhz powerpc + 060 accelerator (128MB RAM) with AmigaOS4.0 Classic....

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Amiga-Cyberstorm-PPC-233-MHZ-Phase5-68060-128MB-FAstRam-SCSI-IDE-/190708796966?pt=Klassische_Computer&hash=item2c67214e26

Starting bid from 2000 Euros (AUD$2365)....

I know they are getting harder to get now but is this serious?

You can buy a brand new complete SAM460 or 2xSAM440 AmigaOne systems with AmigaOS4.1 running at a decent speed and a bunch of extra software for the starting money of just this ppc board...amazing.

Or maybe you are in the market for a Commodore 1571 disk drive, a bargain for USD$699....(AUD$670)

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BRAND-NEW-COMMODORE-1571-vintage-computer-disk-drive-C64-C128-/260973914340?pt=US_Vintage_Computers_Mainframes&hash=item3cc341e8e4

Final auction I found for today (from the same seller) is a Commodore 128D for the highly realistic asking price of USD$3200 (AUD$3064):

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BRAND-NEW-COMMODORE-128D-vintage-computer-and-keyboard-RARE-/260973919535?pt=US_Vintage_Computers_Mainframes&hash=item3cc341fd2f

Some of the other auctions from this seller have similar scary prices....

As an interesting comparison here is another Commodore 128D auction which includes a lot more and is a little bit cheaper currently at USD$103.50 at time of writing:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-Commodore-128D-lot-w-1764-REU-1571-1351-1670-Partner-128-cables-WOW-/140808683119?_trksid=p4340.m1982&_trkparms=aid%3D555001%26algo%3DPW.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D7%26meid%3D971681623446644834%26pid%3D100009%26prg%3D1004%26rk%3D1%26

Hmmm, I wonder which one I would go for....

Final one - not a computer I know, but a sapphire, yours for only USD$19 Million Dollars. And they even throw in free shipping. Bargain. :-)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/101Cts-Huge-Rare-Quality-Yellow-Golden-Natural-Sapphire-/120793670462?pt=Loose_Gemstones_1&hash=item1c1fdd233e

I say it again - WOW.

Catcha,
Epsilon

Its only truely crazy if someone pays for it.

Personally all my Ebay sales are at reasonable prices.

High crazy price.

Nothing retro is worth €2000.

Not even €850 which I heard a guy got for an acc. card.

This is nothing more than a money machine. No offence but ofc. people can't see that.

It looks like something went very wrong with the two $2000 bidders!

I feel bad for some of these sellers -- in particular, those who really don't know anything about what they're selling.  They get some friend or family member who tells them that stuff from the 80s is worth thousands of dollars/pounds/euros and they believe them.

Where I lose my patience is when they cannot be bothered to do the real research themselves.  I recently sold a Cisco PIX 501 with unlimited users for which we paid $850 about six years ago.  They're all still good and usable units but quick research showed they couldn't sell for much over $150.  Mine wound up selling for $50.
