XServer source from Amiga Unix (A2410 support)
« on: February 08, 2008, 09:42:11 PM »
I'm desperately looking for source (or a pointer to such) to support the A2410 (ULowell) video card.

This card is currently not supported in either geekgadgets X server, nor Holger Kruse's AmiWin, nor m68k Linux and would love to be able to take advantage of it - otherwise it's just taking up a slot in my A3000.

I've contacted UMass at Lowell, but there doesn't appear to be anyone left from the early 1990s that would know anything about the project :-(

There are appears to be some source package here:

http://aminet.net/search?query=2410

although I've not checked inside...

Appreciate the pointers - but all of those are Amiga OS specific.  Looking for the Unix code...

yup.  source code would be Commodore/AT&T proprietary - even now ... :-(  AFAIK, no source was shipped with Amiga Unix.

You sound like a coder. Surely some open source Unixoid will have a driver for that TMS34010 chip, no?

You've probably already done this, but just in case:
http://www.google.com/search?q=TMS34010+source+code+driver
http://www.google.com/search?q=TMS34010+X11+source+code+driver

Don't want to use it under Amix BTW? (I assume it has support for Amix since it was shipped with A3000UXs...)

Dunno if this may be what you're looking for...there's 2 source trees of X with Amix, here's from the X11R4 tree.  X11R5 source doesn't seem to have any A2410 at first glance.

Many thanks Failure and da9000 - looks like you've uncovered resources that I was unaware of.  Will pursue ethe sites you've provided.

I still have the hard drive from my A2000 when I was at U.Lowell CPE where Aaron Orenstein was doing most/half of the software development for the A2410.  And I would occasionally be asked to look over stuff.  When I am back in the states a few months from now, I will see if I can resurrect the drive and/or computer.  And see what's there...  Rich Miner (founder of Android) was the main person behind this.  He might have some ideas too, especially about what can and cannot be released.
