Wanted: A NEW Amiga USB keyboard
« on: April 06, 2007, 07:25:13 PM »
I was wondering if enough of us were to ask Amiga INC for an Amiga keyboard if they would partner with someone to make one. I'm thinking it would be perfect for the Towered A1200's, new Amiga's coming, or for even people like me that use WinUAE. I would personally love to have a keyboard with all the Amiga keys, and also with the other IBM keys too...

Why bother with Amiga Inc.?  They don't own the letter "A".
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Exactly. I would not care if it didn't have an Amiga label. I could put one on it. I'm just wanting a keyboard that has the Amiga keys. At one time there was a Micronix adapter case that you could put an A1200 keyboard into. Saw one on eBay. But I'm unsure if it will work on a pc as well as an Amiga.

The reason I ask for this is also for those who own Pegasos machines. And did the Amiga ONE have an Amiga keyboard, or did they require an ibm one?

If the Sam does finally arrive, will it require an ibm keyboard?

You're that offended by the Windows logos?

ibm keyboard?? huh?

Anyhoo. For me the functionality of the keyboard is much more important than the looks. I'll much rather take a good keyboard with windoze logos, than {bleep}ty one with Amiga keys or boingballs.

I use windows at work, and it allows me on my personal machine to have an Amiga again. My real Amiga was stolen from me years ago. I was unable to replace it at the time, and am looking to purchase either an A1200 or a Sam if it becomes available.

I used the term ibm keyboard to signify windows type. All i386 computers are considered ibm clones. Although ibm keyboards I've seen have clack-clack keys...

For nostalgic reasons and to generate curiosity, I wouldn't mind having an Amiga made keyboard to use on my non-Amiga computer.

If an Amiga keyboard were available, would anyone buy it, or is everyone in love with the standard windows keyboard?

Well, "ibm keyboard" can refer to various different keyboard types. I assume you meant "PS/2" and not anything earlier.

Correct. I'm thinking of a newer style, ergonomic kb that just has the proper keys. I seem to always forget and press PageDn while using my AmiKit Amiga, which is not what I intended. I have not figured out yet what to do to get out of that screen unless I reboot. Also, I miss the look and feel of my A1200 keyboard...

I was clearing some stuff today and came upon an A2000 keyboard I had spare (2 broken keys bah!) and it actually is a really nice keyboard quality wise. Is it not possible to use a PS/2 to 5pin DIN converter to use that on the A1200 towers etc with PS/2 ports?

The A1200 keyboard wasn't something as a person who types a lot I would like to use  :-?

The Amiga community have been asking "Amiga" Inc for things for years, and they have failed to deliver anything. As with most other things on the Amiga, you will have to do it yourself. Look here for an Amiga 1200 keyboard and a Keyrah, which will convert it to USB. Then you just need a casing for it. You could either use an old gutted A1200, or maybe another Amiga keyboard is physically compatible.

Excellent news. Keyrah sounds promising. From what I've read about it, it can be used for the IBM or the Amiga. Was definitely considering obtaining an A1200, which would give me the keyboard I'm looking for since the case and keyboard would have been left over once I placed the mobo in a tower.

Thanks!
