We call those things-on-the-feet "flip flops". I've been in computers too long... every time I hear that "Margaritaville" song and Buffet sings "I blew out my flip flop" I think "Well, better change that chip then" ;-)

I hardly think a steady soldering hand would be available after all those margaritas.

I find it rather amusing, actually, that when I was growing up those beachy sandals were "thongs."  It was only later in my days that "flip flops" seemed to become the ubiquitous nomenclature.  I used to hear about how sexy it was for girls to wear thongs to the beach, and was rather confused at first.  I was especially confused to hear about "thong underwear."  Then one day I became enlightened.

"Totally rad" is canonical Californian. I'm from Northern California, so I would normally say "hella " instead, where could be "sweet," "cool," "fresh," "dope," or any other adjective colloquially synonymous with positively good. I also say "dude" a lot.)
