DOpus 4 wasn't that original anyway. The idea of the double-panelled file manager had been around long before that.

Yeah, like DOpus 3.  :-D  Two panelled or not, there is no doubt where the inspiration was.  Even the configure page, file types, etc. are DOpus alike. (Although, there is a mode where you can change the windows to Dir Work alike with buttone in the middle.)
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

KennyR:

You've peaked my intrest. I honestly thought that DOpus was an original concept with the 2panel manager. Where was the idea first introduced? Unix?

but that's not the point, the point is that they don't mention were they got their inspiration. Also in the xchat site they dont mention AmIRC or Amiga.... I guess it's a linux thing not mentioning were they got their ideas...

anyway...

I don't know when first but I remember Diskmanager and SID. They might be older than DOpus. SID was way back in the WB1.2 days.

These are the first file managers I can remember. Zippy was a single list with source/destination fields. DirWork was the first dual list manager I remember, although it may be a clone of an earlier one like SID or DirMaster.  I'd have used it a lot longer than I did, but it froze when it hit a file name longer than 32 characters. PFS more or less made it tough to get by with.

Anybody else remember these?
I sold my Amiga for a small fortune, but a part of my soul went with it.

Everyone who's anyone runs mc instead of this crap :)

Of course this is a rip-off of old software like Norton Commander, which DOpus could also be a rip-off of.

Dual-pane filemanagers are NOT some Amiga invention.

guys or you are blind or I don`t know what.... this filemanager is a DOpus clone, period. And it's not just because it is a dual-pane filemanager. Just look at the pictures. If you don`t mind that they don`t mention this fact, that's another story...

I don't think anyone is saying that.  But, this product is obviously based on DOpus with it's style, buttons, colors, layout, configuration, etc.  That's all.

All dual-pane filemanagers look like that, and use those
ugly 16 colours. Most systems of that era only HAD those
colours!

.. since the dark ages, since DOS, since early Windows,
since RISCOS, since MacOS (1bit B&W!!)
