I'm in like Flynn.  :)  There were a few others who expressed interest in such a group in my recent A2000 build thread, maybe you can track them down if they don't see this post?  Thanks for stepping up, I suck at organizing things... although y'all are always welcome to stop by my office in Gainesville to work on Amigas, if you ever want to make the trek, LOL.  ;)

I've got a couple 1084's I can donate for a raffle, as well.  Maybe I can finally be rid of these doorstops, and you know what they say, one man's junk is another man's treasure, right?  :D

9/17 works for me.  Tuesdays are good, weekends are usually good, Thursdays not so good 'cause I have derby practice (see my avatar) unless I break my leg, LOL.  ;)

I can probably sneak a couple long folding tables out of the office if someone can help me remember and if we need more space for setting up systems, I could bring my A500 that works well, or my troublesome A2000 that I've been fighting with the past few weeks, if anyone wants to help tackle that, LOL.  ;)

I'll also bring along those two 1084 monitors - one working, one not - that we can either raffle off or give away.  I don't need them and don't want them taking up space, but after the second one got damaged being shipped I don't want to try selling them online and risk further damage, so they're for y'all local folks.  :)

Just a quick thought, do you want to try cross-posting this event over on A1K and EAB, just to try to catch anyone else who might be local and not registered on this site, as well?

Think of things for an agenda guys. I will be showing off my toasters and if Mike gives me a 1084 that works, we can build a toaster; I have several.

Not sure what everybody else has in mind, or how much time we'll have, but I love the idea of building a Toaster - it's been probably 17 years since I've even seen one in-person, so that sounds like a lot of fun.  :)  I'll definitely bring those monitors up, I almost want to put them in my car already just to get them out of the house, last I tested one worked fine.  :)

Other ideas - swap meet or brief sale?  Or maybe just set out a table of items if people want to clear out some closet space?

Another idea would be some hardware troubleshooting?  I'm sure we all have some hardware that could be made to work with just a little more combined brainpower.  ;)

Maybe a demo of any Amiga networking products, if anyone has anything like that that they'd like to bring?

Just ideas!  :)

NCAUG withered out around 2006-ish, if memory serves.  Maybe it was more like 2009, but then again everything feels like "it was 20 years ago" for me.  ;)

Just posted a link to this thread over on Amibay in their "news and events" section, it's awaiting moderation now.  ;)

Had a great time at our first meeting.  For those who weren't able to make it here's some brief notes on a few of the many, many topics we covered over nearly five hours:

- looked at a lot of hardware, including many Amiga expansion cards
- Install and test a DCTV, was quite surprised at the quality of the output!
- Install Aladdin 4D, render a few of the included test pictures
- Video Toaster 4000 on one of bigbronc's A2000's
- rdolores and bigbronc worked on setting up WinUAE on a Windows 8 laptop
- I demo'd the installation and some of the capabilities of Indivision ECS

Also here's a few notes before I forget:

- A pic of the Cammy 1084S monitor fix:  http://www.amiga.org/gallery/images/5087/1_1084Switch.JPG
-- Or replacement switch, here:  http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?freeText=174238&langId=-1&storeId=10001&productId=174238&search_type=jamecoall&catalogId=10001&ddkey=http:StoreCatalogDrillDownView
- List at the bottom of this page detailing changes made on A2000 motherboard revisions: http://amiga.resource.cx/mod/a2000.html
- Random, did you know Caligari was bought out by Microsoft, and later released as freeware?  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TrueSpace

Thanks again to bigbronc for putting this together, hope we can all do it again soon!  Maybe Blue Angels flyby next time.  ;)

Ha, there's my ugly mug!  ;)

Here's a few pics I took with my phone, I really thought I'd taken more also, guess I was too busy playing around!  ;)  Should've gotten one of the other room as well.  Next time!

I am glad this first meeting was a success. Sorry I couldn't make it (what a time to get the flu!) Hopefully nothing will get in my way for the next meeting.
Way to go guys!

Hi motrucker, sorry to hear you were sick, we'd definitely like to meet you next time!

One thing I was thinking for on the agenda for next meeting, did I see correctly in another thread that you've recently picked up a Mac Mini to make into a MorphOS box?  I haven't had an opportunity to use MorphOS in 10 years and would love to see how it's come along.  All the screenshots I've seen (plus the fairly reasonable HW and software license cost) make it a pretty tempting entry if I do ever decide to dip my feet into the Amiga NG market.  Would you be willing to bring your system to demo for us?

Also I should definitely bring a folding table for the next one, haha. ;)

Neat!  I'd love to see the Pi, too.  There's a couple links in my previous post that might have some tips on fixing that 1084S switch, the part number is something I came across while researching in the forums a while back, might help you.  :)

Also just received a message over on Amibay that my Thylacine USB card is ready, so I might have something else to demo at our next meeting, yay!  :D

What machine is the USB card for? I am no longer on amibay (my account apparently died, and they don't like my E-Mail account)

Thylacine is a standard Zorro II card, supposed to be compatible with any machine with ZII slots and OS 3.9 or 4.1.  The original hardware schematics were open sourced and they're currently being hand-built in batches by a guy over on Amibay.  I believe he's currently on his fifth production run of 10.

I'm planning on using it in my A2000.  I've got a USB hub already built into my monitor which should give me a several ports (the card only has one).  I'd like to test it out with keyboards, mice (including wireless), flash drives, and ultimately try to find one of the compatible NIC cards.

One of my goals is to get my A2000 on the net, I'd been considering the X-Surf 100 but it seems like that card isn't really "finished" yet (i.e., the USB ports on it aren't active until Jens releases an update for it, which might be a year away, who knows).  Might wait on testing that one "till it's finished", haha.  ;)

Edit: More info on card here:  http://members.iinet.com.au/~loofy/index.html

I'm still in contact with 4-5 Amiga users back in the DC Metro Area AND NONE of them were in your pictures!

The NCAUG E-mail list is still functional too!  I'll copy this thread's URL and post it on there to see if anyone else is interested in showing up.

Thanks!!  :D

It's hard knowing how to get in touch with people.  Outside of this website and Amibay (the only two sites where I have accounts) I don't have a clue how to reach other Amiga users (smoke signals?).  Guess I kind of figure in our small community most active users would be here on a.org, but clearly that's not the case.  It always surprises me when some new user pops up on this website and has been an Amiga user for years, but has a brand new user account and is unfamiliar with the site.  ???  But enough rambling, send 'em our way!  :D

I don't know, I've never used 3.5, made the jump from 3.1 right to 3.9, but the product discription does say "3.9 recommended".  They're pretty similar though, can't think of any major reason why they wouldn't work together, maybe if you bring a 3.5 rig to the next meetup we can try it out?  ;)

Tuesdays are probably still the best for me, maybe the 12th, 19th, something like that?  And you know I'd be glad to help troubleshoot, you've got four A2000's, am certain we could make one working one out of all those parts!  Did you ever order yourself an Indivision?
