Title: Indiegogo for new A500 cases
Post by: Oldsmobile_Mike on March 31, 2018, 06:41:28 PM
Well looks like this has started:

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/new-compatible-case-for-amiga-500-plus#/

$155,000 goal, 2% there as of today.  Wonder why it's not a Kickstarter this time around?  Wonder if they'll be produced any faster than the decades-long wait it took for the A1200 cases?

From Facebook.

Hosted on Indiegogo.
Indiegogo platform evolved quite a lot over the last year and now offers countless enhancements to project managers & teams in term of functionalities and possibilities.

. It's in US$!
Keycaps campaign was in SGD and this was really troublesome.
Indiegogo offers us to use US$ instead.
Currency change for € is also easier to understand in europe.
Big reason for us to shift over Indiegogo.

. Campaign will run 45 Days
It is a bit shorter than previous campaigns, but if we need a couple more weeks, here again Indiegogo let us EXPAND the duration ;)

Not to insult anyone, but do people NEED new A500 cases?! Why? At least finnish Amiga hobbyists are plentiful with old A500s, since it was most popular home computer in our country after C64... Wold be much much sexier and purposeful to manufacture let's say updated A1000 or A3000 cases!

Stand-alone Vampire boards, replacing cracked ones or those that have been hacked and drilled over the years, etc.

I would say that is overly optimistic, but since this is their second bite at the apple insofar as making the molds and producing the cases, I am more confident they hit all the pitfalls with the 1200 cases and the 500 case will be like rolling down-hill.

As for NEEDING the cases, we're talking molded in colors, including clear, which is attractive to me.  All of my 500 cases has survived quite well so I don't need replacements, I want upgrades! :)

Backed a couple A1200 cases, a bunch of keycaps and will back one or two A500 cases, only the later A500's and A500+ fits for me since they will use the rektangular badge.
Chicken lips and square sticker Amiga 500's will stay original :)

I%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!8217;d rather buy an used A500 with a good case and just use that.  I mean what is with the $155K is this much really needed?  But what the hell do I know..ha.  Wish all those some luck who contribute :).

Edit: I have just noticed the A500 prices going up..hehe.

I would say likely, yes, being that the same team produced the 1200 cases and ran into unexpected problems and extra expenses.

My machine shop teacher said that one of the molds in our shop cost about 50k to 80k dollars.

An A1200 case with the Vampire bracket and extensions would be my top choice. The A1200 is my favorite model and it has a smaller footprint.  Will there be another run of A1200 cases?

So if we get one these Vampire ready A500 cases what else is needed for a complete system?
keyboard
mouse
1 or 2 joysticks
wireless Wi-Fi card for internet access
IDE to SD card adapter
SD card
HDMI monitor with speakers

That's a pretty long list. Am i missing anything? Floppy drive?

Is anyone working on these other items?

I'm considering supporting this but don't want to be left with half a system.

I did not bother to back the 1200cases kickstarter since i thought those cases would be available for sale .

Time has passed and i start to wonder if that was a joke as well .
Why would i back this if they have not yet delivered a 100% on the 1200 cases . Am i missing something , oh and yeah i do regret not backing that 1200 campain.

I'm pretty sure all the cases from the original A1200 campaign were shipped. I backed for 2 of them and received mine.

The only thing outstanding are new case badges and floppy eject buttons.

I did back the A1200 cases. Of course over two years later, when they actually arrived, I found I didn't have time for them so sold them on to other members of the community. And now that I'd like one again, I find they are impossible to come by. You'd think now that they have the molds producing more for sale at regular retailers (AmigaKit, Amigastore.eu, etc.) would be simple and "common sense".

Oh well, time is a fickle thing.

TL;DR. The replacement floppy eject buttons never did arrive. :(

They are still coming:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/a1200housing/new-amiga-1200-cases-made-from-new-molds/comments

"As I (phil) support these extra costs by myself (badges, buttons molds & production), it takes a bit time for me to secure them.

But extra floppy buttons will be made too and sent out with badges.
And I'll most certainly send these out by myself too.

Thank you again for your patience guys"

Just watched the deleted scenes (end of video), in the linked video at the indiegogo a500 campaign page.
Were he explains that the amiga1200 cases will be available worldwide trough different stores. This made me so happy that i will back the 500 case even though i currently do not have an amiga 500.

So yeah we will get new cases

You've never seen a video made with deleted scenes at the end?  It's a pretty common thing.  Alternate endings, or if someone flubbed a line, or read the script out of order, etc.  Sometimes people stick them in there just to be kitschy.  Don't worry, it's not some big conspiracy.

Yes these moulds are very expensive to produce, esp if they are high quality with surface finish etc, I work in the plastics industry. Also factor in material costs which are increasing steadily, I don't see 155K is that bad considering they need a few moulds really..

All standard case colours (grey, light grey, purple, red, pink, dark blue, orange, light blue and green) and basic colours ('original A500', white, black and translucent) are now included in the main goal.

The stretch goal to add a 'tank' mouse case to each A500 case is currently the only stretch goal and it has been reduced considerably making it far more likely to be achieved.
