Wow, blast from the past - DaggeX, most famous for vanishing in a disk crash back in 1994 or so :D

No, I have not tried DaggeX on WinUAE (I don't use WinUAE), but... you do know that there are other, more recent native implementations of X11 for Amiga? Like Holger Kruse's AmiWin (http://aminet.net/package/misc/x11/AmiWin222d) and Xami (http://aminet.net/package/misc/x11/Xami)

Oh, and just to whip an old horse... it's X11 Window System, not "X Windows" - people used to get deeply offended over this, hehe 😉

Theoretically and I say THEORETICALLY you can run Firefox on an Amiga by running X on say, a raspberry pi running a linux distro, and using the Amiga as a 'dumb client' using one of the X11 implementations as well as the amiwm window manager which gives an Amiga look and feel.

Can't imagine running Firefox through an X11 being all that speedy on an Amiga, whether emulated or not.

I did that for more than a decade with my A3000.

To keep whipping that old dying horse and being pedantic... it's the Amiga then that is running the X11 display server, and the clients are the X11 programs running on the remote system (like Firefox).

@kolla

How effective was it? What processor and RAM were you using?

My A3000 had CSPPC, so 50MHz 68080 and 128MB of RAM (later it got some hundreds of MB more, but zorro3). Not sure what you mean with "effective", but the bottleneck was always the network card (first A2065, later Deneb and USB ethernet dongle), and then it depends on how complex the GUI component of the client software is, and what hardware it is running on too. GUI complexity is in general much higher today than what it used to be, and X11/xorg is well on its way to be replaced with Wayland for local displays, and RDP for display sharing over network. Good riddance, IMO :)
