Where exactly are you? screenshot?

Maybe you need to use more than a sunstone?

Are you playing the Wits path ? Sophia did not come with you if you played the Wits path. How can she be kidnapped?

As far as I remember you needed the ballon if you played the Wits path.

After pressing the spindle do you hear a "click" sound.  If you do, open the door.  (if that's the place I remember)...  After you take what's inside, don't forget your SunStone.

Also you may need to close the lid of that crate you see there for the balloon

Heh :)

You are in Crete. (but I don't remember a balloon)

As far as I remember you need both the Sunstone and another stone to open that door.

you did some kind of surveying using some kind of instrument to find an X and you found the moonstone there. (it was about some bull statue's head and its horns)

no..  you found a surveying equipment when you crossed a bridge and went to the leftmost side of the screen.  You used that equipment on a bulls head, and placed it somewhere.  After that you aligned it to the horns of the bull.  The two lines gave you an x and you dug that X using something.

see what happens between 8.00 and 8.20 .   Maybe that should happen (and the entrance to cave should collapse) before you can open the door?

Definitely! It's a great game. If you're playing under SCUMMVM make sure you set it up with MT32 music, you are really missing out otherwise :)

Using a good sound font is a much better option in my opinion.

This is the best one I could find that really suits ScummVM and Dos games: http://www.geocities.jp/shansoundfont/
