re directing more/muchmore to pubscreen
« on: October 13, 2003, 11:16:58 AM »
Hi all,
I am having readme files with more as default tool icon and clicking on it is opening a new screen rather than displaying in a window of the pubscreen. Is there a tool able to do that ? I know I could change the default tool but I have then to do it for all which is very time consuming. I tried modepro but did not work or I did not give the right parameters.

Isn't there a patch in MCP to make wb launch Multiview (or any program of your choice) instead of More when the default tool says More.
Slightly bored and severly confused..

Isn't more stored in sys:utilities? As files just point to More you could rename a viewing tool to More in sys:utilities. That way you could use a utility more to your liking

This may be useful, I'm not sure...

Aminet search: Tool alias

Excerpt from Tool Alias' readme:

"ToolAlias provides a mechanism for rerouting specific programs to other programs.  For example, with ToolAlias, you could reroute all references to ':c/muchmore'  to use instead 'sys:utilities/ppmore', so that when browsing documents on a Fish disk, you get to use your favourite text viewer, rather than loading the one specified in the document's ToolTypes."

It's a little old (1993!), but it's so small it's unlikely to be able to cause any problems, and it would save you from having to rename either more or the default tool of every readme file you have.

(Oh, if only deficon had been introduced earlier in the Amiga's life, this sort of stuff would be so much simpler! ) :-P

Thanks Ross, this tool should do the trick.
Lempkee : is screenprefs in prefs directory ? (maybe a silly question)

Does it work under magellan or dopus4 too (=override the dopus internal viewer) ?

ToolAlias shouldn't affect DOpus4, because it simply alters the data that icon.library returns as viewer.
So you have the strings in your palm. Do you know what they are for?

FYI, the ToolAlias function is built into MCP.   :-o

tried toolalias, put in in wbstartup and change old and new but still it does not work. I think I have to copy more and ppmore etc to my C drawer.
