Title: FDD Drive
Post by: on November 11, 2002, 09:54:05 PM
I have a External 3.5' 1010 floppy drive attached to my Amiga 1000. Due to it's age, sometimes when a disk is iserted into it, the disk dosen't allways click down and read. The disk gets pushed down half way and sits there.. is there anyway I can fix this?

Well, I'm not a floppy drive massa, :-)  but if it was mine, I would very carefully take it apart, clean it with some compressed air (not too high pressure) and lubricate the mechanisms with some industrial grade light grease or lubricant.
There may be a worn part, but I would think that cleaning/lubricating would probably do the trick.

BUT WHAT IN THE HECK DO I KNOW, ANYWAY??? ;-)

The 1010. isnt that the really REALLY big floppy drive??
If its totally screwed you could propably get a broken a500 and scope the diskdrive or perhaps buy a used external fdrive. I have one to spare if you need it. Its just a damn long way from Denmark to texas

No, it's not that big.

Actually, when compared to a third-party external FDD it IS big!

Third-party drives have a smaller cross section than a Zip drive and are only 4-5cm deeper. Those A1010s are as thick as the rear of an A500 and nearly as deep. In 1985 they were almost as expensive as an A500 was two years later! Even so, not as high priced as the A1020 5ΒΌ" FDD - That was $300AU more!

Mmmm! 1985 A1000s were $1000AU higher than a FULL AmigaOne XE G4 800Mhz system - how times change.
