Indivision AGA MK2 issues
« on: July 07, 2020, 11:16:16 PM »
I recently purchased second hand Indivision AGA MK2 scandoubler for my Amiga 1200.

When I installed the card it wasn't a tight fit on the Lisa chip. Is that correct?

I had to apply some pressure for it to sit correctly.

On my CRT the image looks perfect my on my LCD monitor the grey background looks abit purple?

wearing an anti static wrist strap I did touch the card when its on and the screen changes to all sorts of colours depending where I touch the board.

Is my scandoubler faulty?

Hi there sturulez!

I really doubt there's any fault with the scandoubler. Color distortion is a classic symptom of an ill fit. You really have to MASH on them to get a good fit. However, I would back up a step. Get some hi quality fast evaporating, non-filming tech spray and clean the socket and the Lisa pins before installation. I also recommend a real good visual and even possibly burnishing the socket pins and Lisa pins with an eraser that resembles a pencil (after you sharpen it to a fine tip). Then, like I mentioned, mash right down on the scandoubler (to the point that it feels like you might actually break something but not quit). This might take 3 or 4 tries till you get the colors to display correctly. And, believe it or not, the longer the scandoubler has been attached to the Lisa chip the more stable it gets. Good Luck!  ;)

Of course you should follow the guide from IComp, take out the mainboard and put it on a table before placing the Indivision.
Quote
The mainboard of your A1200 must be placed on a stable, level surface. First, place the socket over the Lisa chip, but do not push yet! Double-check that all pins line up properly. If the socket should be tilted in any way, it might be destroyed by the pressure that must be applied. The socket is in place if the board is level on the Lisa chip, but cannot be rotated any more.

Okay so after playing around with it I didn't apply enough brute force  :D Its looking like it should now

What is the best resolution I should have with the following monitor

iiyama Prolite XB2283HS

Ive currently got it set up with a VGA in the monitor going into a VGA > DVI adapter.

I was thinking about getting a HDMI > DVI adapter, is that recommended or should I stick to VGA?

Also I can see some "ghosting" on the screen, what is the best way to get rid of that?

Thanks

Glad you got it mashed down!   ;)
Did you get the software with it? If not, here's Jens' Wiki page for the product software and the manual.

http://wiki.icomp.de/wiki/Indivision_AGA_MK2

There are literally hundreds of posts over the years on configuring the AGA MK2.
Especially using the Config Tool!
Here's a Google link on the subject.....   the results are staggering!  :o

https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=indivision+aga+mk2+config+tool&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiWg_iQ9r7qAhUVbs0KHWgWBmgQ1QIoAHoECAsQAQ

A bit of Googling will net answers for probably every question you have.  :D

The Wiki page should get you started though....   8)

As far as all the different HW configs I can't really speak to that as I have only ever used mine with a DVI to VGA adapter.
And as far as the config tool goes, I finally got so tired of messing with it I deleted the software and just run it with the Super Plus driver. However if I change resolutions, it will no longer auto scale so I just leave it at 800x600 and software now just fits in the screen mode fine. This is not recommended though!  ;D

I have been playing with this config tool all evening and I can't get my head around it. On a 22inch widescreen monitor it seems hard to get a decent resolution especially when gaming with it.

I was messing around installing retrofans config and now now I can't get the resoultion I want. I've got a massive border around the display and a small work bench screen in the middle of my monitor

Thankfully I’ve still got my commodore 1084s.. god thats so much easier to get working   ;D

Is it because I’m using a 16:9 monitor? Am I best to go with a 4:3 display screen instead?

It use to display on full screen before I messed around with it.

That isn’t 1280 x 1040 resolution that it’s outputting

I have done a re-flash on the indivision config but that’s made difference.

You surely changed the PAL-interlace resolution from the default 800x600 to 1280x1024.
If you open the IndivisionAGA config tool, you have to select the PAL-interlace entry on the Left section, the middle section will show a 1280x1024 resolution highlighted. On the Right section you will see a line named "Double" and two cycle-gadgets to the right.
I suppose you have the first set to "S-HiRes" and the second one to "Lines"; change them respectively to "Hires" and "Off" and then click on "Test". It should display the full screen now. If you are happy with the result you can then hit "Apply" and "Save".

You can also select "Default Config" in the "Config" menu, then hit "test", "apply" and "Save" to take it back to factory defaults.

Thanks for your help. I guess its takes abit of time to get your head around the config. :)

So my workbench now looks perfect, but how can I change the resolution for games to make them look less stretched and more like 640 x 256 or is this not possible?

Okay so I have managed to obtain a configuration created by some called "Hans"

The Workbench display is at 1280 x 1024

The display for playing games is at 640 x 512 60Hz

I have replaced my VGA cable with a HDMI going into my monitor then into a HDMI to DVI adapter. The workbench display has vastly improved. I have changed the output setting in the Indivision preferences to DVI

The issue I am now facing is that when I load a game from a floppy or WHDLoad I get the sound to the game but no picture. Just a black screen and a message that pops up saying "No Signal Detected"

Is there an option somewhere I have missed?

If you have not changed any resolution by accident, and it was working before you switched from vga to dvi/hdmi, then most probably the monitor supports a different Frequency range for the two ports (vga and hdmi).
That said, the "screen resolution" for the games is out of that range and you need to change it.

Like before, open the indivision AGA prefs tool, this time select the PAL entry on the left section, and the 800x600 60Hz vga Mode in the middle section. Click on "test" in the lower section, and if you are happy with it, press "apply" and "save"

Edit: if 800x600 distorts the image too much, try with 16:9 resolution like 640x360, 768x432, 896,504 1280x720 from the middle section.
