AROS Quick Record Audio tool
« on: October 09, 2010, 04:51:49 PM »
News from clusteruk via amigaworld.net

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvn3jP4hjEk

After the release of my HDAudio drivers I wanted a basic recording tool for Aros, instead we got the amazing Audio Evolution 4 from Davy Wentzler.

Still I wanted a simple audio recorder so I asked Ian Gledhill who wrote the Catweasel drivers for me to have a go. Today I received the finished version and it is more than I asked for so look at the video. It will be available on my site over the weekend, maybe tonight if I have time.

This will record .raw, .wav and even .mp3 using Lame automatically. Just enter filename and path press record to start, Stop to finish, simple as that.

Now I want people to send Ian Gledhill a donation because whilst I paid for him to do it, it did not really cover his time. Plus it is a great little application.

On top of this all the source code will be in the Aros repository so you coders can use it to make better Aros Audio applications, maybe voice over IP or anything you can think of.

Have fun but please donate to Ian, I will create a page on my site soon with this and a donate page.

Most of all have fun.

Steve

Very nice :)

I have a few suggestions...
* display the levels even when not recording, so that one can adjust volume before recording
* volume-in adjuster (knob or slider)
* big fat red "recording" lamp when recordning :D
* direct support also for FLAC and ogg vorbis, or perhaps support for external encoders via prefs, something akin to "filename ending with ogg -> encode with oggenc"

Earth has a lot of things other folks might want... like the whole planet. And maybe these folks would like a few changes made, like more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and room for their way of life. - William S. Burroughs

Added a "monitor" button - like saving but without the saving :)

Added.

It does need an indicator, yes. Watch for V1.2. :)

I would certainly like to add OGG Vorbis and FLAC support. See above. :)

New version V1.1 uploaded (same link to Stephen's page) has numerous other improvements too. :)

Hi All

This little application is more than I asked for some time ago and I am over the moon with it.

I hope that others will take the source code and use it to do new things on any of the Amiga flavours. Just have fun with it and thanks again Ian.
Amiga 1000/3000, iMica Silent and NVidia Aros computer.
