Woooooot
« on: January 27, 2007, 01:33:15 PM »
Wow - I have been bleating to my lil bro for months now to get him to pay me back at least some of the £1k he owes me, as I want to get an Amy.  He just sent me an email saying as a hes bought me an AMY and is having it shipped to me!!! (Pressie==hes knocking off the cost from what he owes, but all the same its fantastic)

Who knew he had it in him?  He gave me the following specs (but as hes a bit of a computer gimp its not much) - It is an A4000D with a hdd and 030/50 with fully populated ram and DVDRom.  He don't know which Roms or OS its running but he paid £200 for it at a computer sale in London so it can't be bad.

Now I really cannot wait :) oh yey is me indeed .... yipppeeeee

"...It is an A4000D with a hdd and 030/50 with fully populated ram..."
---------------------------------------------------------

That sounds unusual, or unlikely.
It's either going to be an 030 card with no ram on the card, or it is an 030 on the mobo. In both cases you will get a maximum of 16mb fast ram.
What is more likely (and better for you) is that it is an 060/50 with 128mb ram on board.

Well let's hope it is the 060...and that there is no battery damage on the mobo.

Hi

He saw it working and running the AmigaOS so its gotta be pretty good condition (first job I'll do is move the batt off the board and 'cell' it for future.

He says its got all its ram sockets full on the board so I guess that means 2/16mb configuration.  if it is a 50MHz 030 then its probably a standard board without the ram sockets :( but will have to look for a 060 or PPC when my tax return arrives in march.

:)

Ja, I haven't heard of a stock 030 board for an A4000, that is 50mHz.

no I meant I believe its probably an after market 030 upgrade
something like the blizzard ones.  Its def a 50Mhz but unsure which and thats the only ones I remember - maybe Ill get lucky and its a nice juicy one, but for £200 I ain't gonna complain :)

Looks like a good one to me :D Gotta say, the A4000D is a great machine, sometimes a little awkward to upgrade, but always good :)

That price aint too bad for one of those either, not many people with them want to sell them. Hope you have as much fun with it as I do with mine.. and don't spend too much upgrading it, if you intend to. (so easy to over spend.. lol)

Hmmm, RTG card...

Never used any of the Picasso range of cards, but Cybervision 64s with CGX4 installed work well from my experience :) and they come up on ebay quite often... Think they have a scandoubler built in too if memory serves...

No, probably need more RAM than that I'd imagine... But for workbench it'll be fine, just don't plan on playing any 3D games until you've upgraded.. heh :)
