Title: A-EON: Enhancer Software 1.2 Released
Post by: eliyahu on December 28, 2016, 03:09:01 PM
(http://wiki.amiga.org/images/thumb/9/94/EnhancerSoftwareV1.2.jpg/250px-EnhancerSoftwareV1.2.jpg) (http://wiki.amiga.org/images/9/94/EnhancerSoftwareV1.2.jpg)

A-EON Technology Ltd (http://www.a-eon.com/) is pleased to deliver another major update to the Enhancer Software for AmigaOS 4.1 systems. The Enhancer Software version 1.2 (http://wiki.amiga.org/enhancersoftware) package demonstrates our ongoing commitment to the AmigaOS platform. We are pleased to confirm that it is available as a free download from AMIStore (http://www.amistore.net/) for existing registered users. New customers can either purchase a digital download from AMIStore or a buy a boxed CD from selected Amiga dealers.

The year 2016 has been a busy and productive time for the new AmigaDeveloper.com Team. In May, Enhancer Software v1.0 was released, shortly afterwards in August the v1.1 package was completed and released to the public. Version 1.2 in now the ultimate release of 2016 and represents a snapshot of the complete year's work by the team.

Enhancer Software Special Edition
For the first time to meet popular demand, there is now a low cost version called the Enhancer Software Special Edition. This is aimed at lower specification and older computer systems that cannot use the RadeonHD, Warp3D Nova/OpenGL ES 2.0. The lower priced Special Edition is identical to the other versions of the Enhancer Software however, CANDI, RadeonHD, Warp3D Nova and OpenGL ES 2.0 have been omitted from the package.

RadeonHD updated with Oland chipset support
In the Standard Edition and Plus Edition, RadeonHD driver has been significantly updated. RadeonHD Oland chipset is now supported which opens up a wider range of graphics cards which can run on the Amiga and run with Warp3D Nova. Oland chipset based graphics cards can be currently more easily obtained at lower costs which we are hoping will encourage more users to upgrade to modern graphics hardware.

Warp3D Nova and Open GL ES 2.0 updated
Also present in the Standard Edition and Plus Edition are big updates to Warp3D Nova (v1.34) and OpenGL ES 2.0 (v1.12). The features supported by Nova have been increased and performance has been boosted which have been taken advantage of by the optimised OpenGL ES 2.0 library.

Utilities updated
Popular applications such as TuneNet have been steadily upgraded over the last few months. Additionally, development resource has been invested in to AmiPDF, Clock, MultiEdit, MultiViewer, X-Dock to keep them incrementally progressing and meeting the demands of user feedback. A "skinnable" Calendar application (based on the new datesheet gadget) has now been added to complement the "skinnable" Clock application from the previous release.  Also the clipboard manager, ClipViewer (http://wiki.amiga.org/index.php?title=Clipviewer)  has been updated to accommodate user feedback

(http://wiki.amiga.org/images/5/50/Calendar_default.png) (http://wiki.amiga.org/images/thumb/e/ea/Calendar_enhancer.png/250px-Calendar_enhancer.png)

New Prefs applications added
There are now two new Prefs applications added which have been taken and adapted from the forthcoming Enhancer Software OS3 package. The new Sound Prefs combines the functionality of the old AHI and Sound Prefs together and introduces support for multi-channel sound device tests and new sound datatype as well as updating the GUI. The Time Prefs features a modern GUI using the new datesheet and clock gadget classes. The time can even be set by clicking on the hands of the clock and spinning them around!

(http://wiki.amiga.org/images/thumb/9/9c/Sound_prefs.png/250px-Sound_prefs.png) (http://wiki.amiga.org/index.php?title=Sound_Preferences) (http://wiki.amiga.org/images/thumb/2/2d/Time_prefs.png/250px-Time_prefs.png) (http://wiki.amiga.org/index.php?title=Time_Preferences)

Gadgets and Classes updated and added
To take advantage of the new gadgets and classes, almost all the software has been transitioned to utilise them in an ongoing rolling upgrade programme.

A-EON would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank the team as a whole: the developers, beta testers, translators, graphic artists. Their dedication and enthusiasm to progress the platform has made this release possible. Please check the "credits" section in the Enhancer Software to see a list of the contributors to this project.

Any update on the Classic version?
Title: Re: A-EON: Enhancer Software 1.2 Released

The Prefs program which features in this update was first written for the Enhancer Software OS3 and then ported up to the OS4 version.

The Enhancer Software OS3 is still be worked on as the code base is shared as much as possible with the OS4 version.   As you may imagine, a lot of hard work so far.

What is the TimeGuard commodity?
Title: Re: A-EON: Enhancer Software 1.2 Released
Post by: amigakit on December 28, 2016, 08:53:21 PM
It simply ensures that your system time keeps to the NTP time set in the Time Prefs on boot up.

Very useful on my A1200 where the time from my real time clock seems to "move" slightly over the month.

Sounds handy.  :) Does it support pool.ntp.org?

And a random thought for 2am: How about an update to AmiDock to allow it to support transparent backgrounds? :D

Does it allow running the hardware clock as UTC, using timezone data and locale setting to set system time?

Does the Special Edition version require a Radeon HD card or not as on your webpage in the minimum requirements it says it does.  I thought the Special Edition version didn't need one.
Title: Re: A-EON: Enhancer Software 1.2 Released
Post by: amigakit on December 30, 2016, 12:28:54 PM
No it does not need RadeonHD, it is for low spec systems without RadeonHD.

Good spot! that was a small error which is now corrected, thank you.

Yes it does :)  TimeGuard commodity sets it automatically, see documentation here: http://wiki.amiga.org/index.php?title=TimeGuard

The Enhancer Software uses a different docking system called X-Dock: http://wiki.amiga.org/x-dock

When will the updated RadeonHD driver v1.20/v2.21 be released for owners of the driver? It's not visible in AmiStore app. I own v1.7.

Do you have the Enhancer Software in your downloads ?  The majority of the recent updates of RadeonHD driver are aimed at supporting Warp3D Nova which is only available in the Enhancer Software.

No. Just the driver. Theoretically I could buy a Oland Radeon card for use with my Sam440ep-Flex + PCI->PCI Express adapter and for that I need the latest driver.

Or, perhaps you could give me a nice offer to upgrade to Enhancer Software Standard edition (I've purchased RadeonHD v1.7 + MultiviewerNG 1.2).

I'm a bit confused.
Is this software just for AmigaOS 4.1 systems, or can it also be used on
OS 3.x systems (This is aimed at lower specification and older computer systems)?

Also following the link you gave didn't bring up any 'system requirements'.
I'd be more glad if a chapter 'system requirements' would be included somewhere - either here, or at the link you provided...

Dandy, sometimes I wonder under which stone you hid the last months.. ;-)

The "lower spec" systems are indeed "lower spec AmigaOS 4.x systems" - Sam440ep, original AmigaOnes etc.. All those that can't fully utilize RadeonHD cards or the like.

Nevertheless A-Eon announced an Enhancer version especially for AmigaOS 3.x/68 systems.

:biglaugh:
Yeah - one could get that impression.
Well, a lot of issues kept me busy over the last months so there was near to no time left for my Amiga hobby (health probs, family probs, broken & leaking sewage in the basement causing mould in the walls, broadband access probs due to hacker attacks on provider side, etc. pp. ...).
And now even my just 10 month old WIntel quadcore PC broke! :furious:
Luckily my 24 year old A4k is still alive and working...

That's why I e.g. haven't been active on any Amiga forum last December...

At some point a version of this package is supposed to be released for classic systems.  From what I've seen off-hand of the development, it sounds pretty good.

As they say in the Amiga world, "two more weeks".  ;)

Sam460ex@1,15 GHz
4.1 FE Update 1
Enhancer Software Standard Edition with Radeon HD 1.20.

http://www.sapphiretech.com/productdetial.asp?pid=A95D090F-34D3-4BD8-ADA2-DA5F80F7B15F&lang=eng R7 240 4G D3. Lock up in Workbench at first disk activity, for example starting app from Amidock or clicking on drive icon. As long as there´s no disc activity (after loading Workbench and WBstartup programs) there´s no lockup.

The difference between HDMI and VGA is that with VGA a Intution screen says "Cannot create screen mode for Radeon HD Oland" and I get a screen in probably 320x200 instead of 1920x1080.

Suggestions?

make sure you use the debug kernel in your kicklayout file, and set the debuglevel to 3 for a start. if nothing else it will give hans and A-EON the data they need about your video card.

Thanks. Seems the card is correctly discovered as OLAND, but not fully:

RadeonHD.card (0): RadeonHD.chip 1.20 (25.10.2016)
RadeonHD (2): Graphics card name is: Radeon HD OLAND
RadeonHD (2): Identified the chipset as: OLAND

RadeonHD.chip (0): Cannot load MC microcode for this chipset
RadeonHD.chip (0): Cannot set up default voltages and clocks because the MC microcode hasn't been loaded

I have registered at Amigadeveloper.com, waiting for account verfication.

The debug level is for the kernel not the RadeonHD driver. If you're convinced that there's a RadeonHD driver bug (or any Enhancer CD software), then please submit a bug report via A-EON's bug tracker (http://amigadeveloper.com/bugreports/login_page.php).

That said, I'm not convinced that it's the graphics driver...

If it's related to disk activity, then it could be a problem elsewhere. You're lucky your Sam440ep-Flex even boots with the Oland card because I've heard that the old Sams just don't like Southern Islands cards (a Uboot issue most likely).

Things to check:
- Which PCI-to-PCIe bridge card are you using (they're not all created equal)? Ask other Sam440ep owners what they used
- Which PCI port do you have it plugged into? The 66 MHz one? Or one of the other ones?

That sounds like the DDC channel isn't working over VGA, so it can't find out what modes the monitor supports. Setting the modes manually in ScreenMode prefs will solve this, but you're better off using DVI.

My Radeon R7 240 does the same thing and works fine (in an A1-X1000).

IIRC, MC microcode isn't needed for cards with DDR3. With GDDR5 cards, the card gets started at low speed (~150 MHz) and needs the MC microcode before they can run at their rated speed. Oland cards are already set to run at their rated speed from the get-go, so the MC microcode doesn't matter.

I'm very sorry misleading you into thinking the card is fitted in a Sam440.
I've since my earlier messages in this thread upgraded to a Sam460! And today's message is now updated to mention this is happening with a Sam460 and nothing else.

Does your card too have 4 GB 128-bit memory? Have you seen the link to my card's specifications?

If my Radeon HD R7 card "should" work it might have something to do with DMA and disk activity.

You write: "Oland cards are already set to run at their rated speed from the get-go, so the MC microcode doesn't matter.". But this card has 730 MHz Engine Clock and 780 MHz Boost Engine Clock. Or are you only talking about the memory speed? That is "1600 MHz, 1800 MHz effective". But maybe that's only marketing talk?

Edit: Managed to catch a crash for the first time: RadeonHD.chip (0): wait for 8 fifo entries failed (0 available).

Usually I don't get anything on the serial port when freeze occurs (debug level 3).

Are you using the onboard Sata-II? If so, have you set it up correctly in UBoot? Also, what graphics card were you using on this machine before switching to the R7 240?

I'm talking about both clocks. My card's clocks are set to 780 MHz and 900 MHz (which gives 1800 MT/s with DDR3 RAM).

That sounds like your GPU is locking up. Are you able to capture a log with the debug version of the Radeon HD driver (once again, the kernel debug level is irrelevant)? If so, submit that as part of your bug report to amigadeveloper.com.

Using a 2-port 3512 SATA card.

I was using a Radeon HD 5450. I have a Radeon HD 4650 too. Both working fine, but no 3D support.

Okay, will try the debug version of the Radeon HD driver tomorrow. Hopefully I have my bugtracker account confirmed till then.

Thanks again.

In the meantime:
RadeonHD.chip (2): The detected amount of video RAM is 4294967296
RadeonHD.chip (2): The detected amount of video RAM exceeds the PCI BAR aperture for video RAM.
RadeonHD.chip (2): Only 268435456 of the total 0 is accessible by the CPU.
RadeonHD.chip (5): Framebuffer space used by Firmware (kb): 0
RadeonHD.chip (5): rhdAtomGetFbBaseAndSize: AtomBIOS specified VRAM scratch space size invalid
RadeonHD.chip (5): AtomBIOS scratch space size not specified; default to: 20480
RadeonHD.chip (1): Cannot get VRAM scratch space. Allocating in main memory instead

Is that a problem?

In the end I get a freeze without Radeon debug output, or I get this:

RadeonHD.chip (0): wait for 8 fifo entries failed (0 available).

Shouldn't be. There's clearly a bug in the debug output, but the driver should be able to handle >= 4GB VRAM.

Still waiting for my bug report account at Amigadeveloper.com; ten days and counting.

Has anyone managed to get a 4 GB Oland card working?

Thanks, but I still haven't received any email. That means I don't have a password and without that I can't login.

Check your Spam filter or add to your Safe Senders List if you are using Hotmail.

You have opened two accounts now and I have sent the confirmation email to the first (gmx) email account.

Not using Hotmail. Nothing in my spam folder. I've added amigakit.com and amigadeveloper.com to my whitelist now, let's see if that helps.

Amigakit, you have PM.

Been trying to create an account for over two weeks now, a bit frustrating.

Thanks!

That didn't work earlier, but now I finally got the Password Reset email to one of my two provided addresses.
