New network card from Individual Computers
« on: June 22, 2013, 04:27:02 PM »
Amiga-News.de is reporting that Individual Computers' Jens Schoenfeld has a new Zorro II/III network card in development. Current estimates are that the card will be available in August for 130 Euro.

A network card for big-box Amigas is always good news.

Personally I wish someone would bring out a new Z2/3 USB card.  I just use a cheap $10 PC USB network adapter with my Deneb to get online.

What would be nice is if the network card was combined with a IDE/SATA controller.  Still, any extras just adds to the cost.

according to what jens writes on a1k the two port usb expansion for this card is being designed with otherwise similar specs as deneb, but based on different chip.

Wow, excellent!  Thanks for that info.  I find it hard to use a classic Amiga these days without USB ports simply for the easy transfer of files and inexpensive add-ons like CD/DVD ROM drives, card readers, etc.

Thank goodness we still have people like Jens bringing out new hardware for classics.

Great news for big box Amiga users :) I really like it's ultra low profile design and the expansion possibilities,  although I will be buying this puely for Ethernet and won't be geting my hopes up to much for USB until it's officially released, a Deneb style card is ambitious, and Jens sometimes has a habbit of not completing planned expansions for his products, I'm thinking in particular of the clockport expansion card that was announced for the IDE FIX Expess, and the memory expansion for the Kickflash Zorro card.

Kind of wondered why he had licensed the Poseidon stack from Chris Hodges awhile back, then updated his X-Surf drivers recently; it now makes sense.

I remember i sent him a email some time ago and asked him if he planned to make a usb controller for the 1200. He told me to wait and see and that he didn't licensed the poseidon stack just for fun. Really hope that there will come a new usb-controller for the 1200 and 600 :)

D'oh!  now I'm kind of wishing I hadn't already gotten the Spider upgrade.  A Zorro board would be sweet, since i wouldn't need the Radeon to be in there just to get networking.

Still may consider it, though I've spent way too much on my Amiga this year...

There is a nice post by Jens on EAB about the X-surf 100 and it getting a 100 Mb/s Ethernet speed and USB.  He has other uses planned for the design than the Amiga market but knows a crowd pleaser when he has one.  YEAH!!
