But is for instance a sculpture or painting from Michelangelo offending? And why wouldn't guns (as I've seen those in avatars) be offending?

I imagine we all soiled a few hundred pairs of nappies as well, but WHAT HAS THAT GOT TO DO WITH THE AMIGA?

What have those coffeehouses to do with the Amiga?

@todi

Karlos' comment can, however, be regarded as a political statement relevant to these forums.  Sexual symbols cannot.

Coffee House is meant to be 'off topic' (at least as far as Amiga is concerned), not the entirety of Amiga.org.

Does anyone find a scuplure by Michelangelo offensive?

Do you find pictures of guns offensive?

But my primary question has to be, why are you defending immature uses of avatars?  Isn't there something more interesting and/or more important to talk about?

Guys?

As usual, you're sitting here debating for the simple pleasure of hearing yourselves.  There is no debate here, either warranted or accepted, nor are these open to interpretation.  If I, or a moderator sees another avatar with questionable content contained, it will be removed.  No questions asked or explanations given.

This is why we have a posting guideline, and if anyone really wants to push the point, I'll simply remove the ability to have avatars altogether.  I know that removing avatars (and 60-70k per PAGE) would NOT hurt the people who are still on dialup one single bit.

I really don't know.

Yes, I think guns are as offensive as swastika's and alike. Because it has a history of caused grief and a future of causing grief, as it is the sole purpose of those.
Plus, I ain't using a sword as my avatar (I like swords for  some utterly childish reason) either for the same reasons.

If one wants to be that way, I think I'd be a hypocrite to condemn such a person, because I sometimes also want to state things with my avatar.

Then why did you mention it?

We don't allow swastikas in avatars.

So have many things, but that doesn't mean they become icons of that sort of thing.  For example, a cross would certainly be covered by that statement.

What, like "I like penises"?  Is that the sort of intelligent and insightful statement you want to make to other Amiga.org members at any point soon?  Nobody asked you to condone or condemn anything either, you're kind of advocating that people should have immature avatars to scream to the world that their sexual drive is working and they're proud of it and yet your shrugging your shoulders at the same time.

well, if I would have an avatar for some reason with that Michelangelo painting about the creation of Adam and the touch of god, or the Da Vinci painting with a man stretching his arms in a circle and a square, or to keep it short, a painting that has a certain expression but contains nudity because it was the habit of painters back then, and you want the particular expression to be your statement, but you can't because the painting causes offence to some who wash themselves once a year.

I saw those avatars and I thought: so what, why should I care?
