FREE: A1200 motherboard, broken
« on: May 26, 2008, 05:24:12 AM »
Anyone who wants an A1200 motherboard that has a pin broken off of the IDE header is welcome to it for postage... pm me.

[edit:] the board is otherwise fully functional and has 3.1 roms, which I'm not even going to bother to pull.

Hehehe. Well, actually, the way I figure it, it's good karma (considering I no longer have a use for it) to give the board away. i could obviously use some good karma (or at least luck!) for my other projects, so it's actually a selfish motive.

Would be quite easy to solder a new IDE header on. I have a broken A600 board if anyone wants to get that off me (just pay the postage) and get pkillo's A1200 off him and from the 2 you will have one good machine!
Amiga A1200, 3.1 ROMs, Blizzard 1230 MKIV 128MB & FPU, 4GB DoM SSD, Workbench 3.1

**you don`t have to changed the whole IDE header if one, two or even three pins are broken**.

(1)you can desolder just the single broken pin by heating it up with a soldering iron, then push on the pin itself while the is still in contact with the soldering iron.

(2)you can also pull the broken pin out with a pair of pliers while the soldering iron is still heating the pin.

use the above 1 or 2 to desolder a new pin.

**anyone** with soldering skills can do this.

the size of the pin can be found many places & don`t rule out devices like old broken 2.5 inch hardisk, just make sure the pin is long enough. test before soldering in new pin.

if you use a old hardisk you will have to flatten the pin before soldering.

be sure it`s long enough before soldering.

I think if I had any chance of being able to repair the board I probably would not have broken the pin off in the first place.

btw, all who have pm'd the board has been promised to AltRN8 as he was first to respond.

Are you still looking for a new board? Personally (i.e. if I was you) I'd have kept the ROMs... :-/
