"Factory sealed" Amiga A500
« on: March 03, 2006, 10:34:26 AM »
Found on TradeMe - New Zealand's eBay equivalent, here.

NZ$500 (approx £200) seems a bit OTT when "new old stock" A1200s can be bought for a similar price!

While I wouldn't buy this, I don't think the cost is unreasonable. Judging by the pictures this is in perfect condition. If it is in fact still sealed, then this will appreciate in value over time.

But wouldn't you just be a little tempted to open the box?!

Heh, yeah I would open it to check what is inside. The real question is, would you *use* it?  :-P

That so-called "factory seal" looks fishy. It may be a refurbished unit. It could be a yellowed unit and the buyer would be stuck. Caveat Emptor.

Could be NOS. I sold a couple of these Deluxe packs a few years back and IIRC I got between ~$280 and ~$360 for them on eBay auctions. IIRC one did ship somewhere overseas(very vague, I forget). you may want to ask if this is an NTSC or PAL before you bid.

It could be, though a closeup of the seal would help. Looks very similar to the seal on the NOS Deluxe packs I had a few years back.

And the seller could have carefully opened the box from the other end! Or am I just being overly suspicious?!

IIRC not that type of box.

When it's lying flat on it's back the top flips open from the front.  At that point it's posible to unfold the sides and that's it.  You can't open it from any other side without cutting or ripping the box.

Hmmmm it is possible to get around the seal.
it could have been carefully prised off when first used and stuck back on with glue or something, or it could be a completely new seal altogether.
I mean i wouldn't buy this - if i were to buy something i would like to actually use it...........or could be something else to put on the rather large mantlepiece :-P

I scored a refurbished by commodore A500 for $75 on ebay a few years back.  Looks and smells brand new so I am happy.

I keep seeing the "yellowed Amiga cases" mentioned in different threads. I'm sorry to say I threw out several empty 500 and 1200 case in decent shape months back. Maybe I sould have offered them up as case upgrade for the yellowed masses. At the time I though absolutly no one would care, and would have to pay to get rid of them.
