Is this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3400390890&category=) a good deal folks?
I'll probably score one if it is....
-
Yes, I would get it (actually I already brought one a month ago from Ebay for about the same price),
I already tested it on my PC and it is very fast (faster than the LE version)
as it is an original ATI card it working at faster mem speed, and tends to be alot more expensive than the LE version, so for £70 it is very good value.

Well, pricewatch.com lists the 8500 (non LE) w/64MB at US $63.00, so I don't know how that compares to pounds. If it were Euros I would say it's fair, in pounds it sounds a bit higher to me. Anyone know the exchange rate?
-
Probably a decent deal, but learn to make sweet love to the price watch (http://www.pricewatch.com) man;-)
better deal here (http://www.enetshoponline.com/atirad85ddr6.html)

Not quite the exact same card for $63. The link I put above is a DV.

The cheapest price I can find for this card in Norway is a little less than £75 (for a brand new, ATI-made card). So if the prices are approximately the same in the UK, I guess this is a fair deal. I recently bought a brand new Sapphire Radeon 9100 with 128MB for £76, though. Unfortunately I don't know how the Sapphire cards compare to ATI ones...

Hey Wilse,
You could try micro direct (http://www.microdirect.co.uk) (which is a Manchester company) for components. I got plenty from them over the years...
For example: ATI 128Mb DDR Radeon 9000 Pro oem + software TV-out DVI AGP [Branded Powercolour] is £67.00, (£78.73 including VAT).

So the difference being the DVI out??? If I follow the link to the website the 8500 64MB that they list there sounds the same. (http://store.yahoo.com/hoct12/1012.html)
They must be close at least. BTW:
69.99 GBP United Kingdom Pounds = 115.30 USD
United States Dollars

Hi Al,
better deal here
$92 is about £65-ish? (Can't remember currency conv. URL)
I couldn't seem to find whether they'd ship free to the UK either.
-
Most (if not all - I didnt get a chance to check out all the claims) of these are for POWERED by ATI cards,
which use ATI chips but are manufactured by other companies,
where as the ATI card on sale on ebay is an original BUILT by ATI card, which are normally alot more expensive than the POWERED by ATI cards.
So I would say its down to you if you buy it or not,
But I got the original ATI card as it is more likely to be supported by OS4, rather than the huge number of POWERED by ATI cards, which Forefront Tech may not be able to test on.

@Karlos
Microdirect is not bad on prices but as your in Manny i would recommend Bowlers for stuff at prices which will make MD look very expensive.
-
Sod it - I'm gonna buy it and use it in the burd's PC till my A1 arrives.

Cheers. I think I tend to go to MD out of laziness more than anything ;-). Bowlers have got some big event on this weekend, I might check it out...

I got burned buying a hercules prophet 9000 pro 128mb agp. with tv out, dvi and vga out.
anyway a demo for the redeon 8500 that came on the cd with card wouldnt work saying my gpu didnt support hardware n patches. So i spoke to hercules and they told me that the 8500 is actually a better gpu running at a higher clock.
fooled by number again, u would assume that a redeon 9000 would be better than a 8500, the 9700 is cetrainley better than the ones b4.

My LE (powermagic) has got DVI-output.
clocked at 250/250. Quite fast acctually, but you need at least a 1ghz CPU to get all horsepower from it. The difference between my duron600/XP@1,4 ghz in 3dmark was 4500/9000.
The All-In-Wonder's are underclocked in most cases, so beware (not like the LE, but lower!)

My Mac version cost £210 :-o I'm jelous of PC peripheral prices! :madashell:
-
Well, I bought it but he's also offering a S-vid cable and scart box for an additional £8.50.
Is this good value and what would I use it for?
(I'm new to graphics cards)
-
You could plug the s-vid cable in your TV, if you got such input. I use an s-vid to standard rca plug cable (one signal, one ground) and straight to my TV. Many TV sets lack the standard rca input, but if you got scart then you could use the scart-box instead. just check what inputs it has got.

Is this basically the equivalent of an A500 RF modulator?
I'm wondering if I'll ever *want* to plug my computer into the TV.
-
Its not RF, its video, so the picture would be more clear.
-
I actually used my ATi 9000 Pro to play Day of Defeat on my TV. It was quite an experience!!!! The quality is better than the good old modulator.

@Paul_Gadd
