@amigakit
“outdated”? By what? If YOUR classes make Os 3.9 components fail, YOUR classes have compatibility problems and should not be distributed.

Now what was it Thomas was writing about such things? What does Minious say about this?

Also, a reminder that AmiSphere Terms&Conditions are still “Error: File Not Found” and many of the services that require login credentials on on amiga.org do not work with https - GDPR dictates that you shall protect user data as best possible, something you keep failing at - too many web servers and domains to maintain perhaps? A big shoutout to amigapassion.co.uk and amigastore.eu!

@kolla

I think you misunderstand the situation.  The classes included with ImageFX are necessary for it to work with older versions of Workbench- lots of users are not running OS3.5 or later.  It will not work without it being in the package.  However, in later OS3.5, 3.9 etc these were updated.

So if we assumed that everyone has compatible classes then all users less than 3.5 will be unable to use the application.

Going forward we will be replacing the classes with newer software that we have developed over recent years such as our Select Gadget.  So far this has been on the Enhancer Software for OS4 but it will make an appearance on OS3 and ImageFX will benefit.

@amigakit
do you serve a documentation website where interested users can lookup the benefits of those new classes and learn how to integrate them into their own projects?

@amigakit Thanks for figuring that out and offering a solution. I did the installs in "Intermediate" and not "Advanced" so it just overwrote those files.

@kolla sometimes your advice can be so helpful, and sometimes you just sound sassy. We were just trying to get to the bottom of the error here and resolve it, not open a can of worms.

Right, so I misunderstood, and read it as classes distributed with ImageFx were newer than those distributed with OS 3.9 - but I now understand that the opposite is the case.

But regardless, these classact/reaction classes are several cans of worms in both technically and legally.

So what version of bevel.image and chooser.gadget? Old ClassAct versions? Came along with ImageFx when acquired from Nova? If so they may very well have license issues, as the ClassAct license specifically says that distribution license is NOT transferrable, and rights are only granted to original company, and new owners must get new license. And current owner is Hyperion, apparently, is Hyperion :)

If I buy the C.D. will I get a letter saying how to avoid the install error?
I can not access Amisphere.
Sorry if that is a horrible question.

A really good question, actually. It only happens in Amiga OS 3.9 (maybe 3.5 if anyone still uses it). If you have 3.1 or 3.1.4 you are fine.
If you install in "Advanced" mode it will warm you that it will over write the two files in question, and you can choose "no" and be ok.
You can also back up the entire SYS:/classes folder, and restore it after the install and it puts the correct files back. It does not cause Workbench to not load, just breaks certain parts of it. Hope that helps!

Addendum: It does seem that if you just restore bevel.image it will likely solve the issue. Just make sure you have a backup of it before installing on an AmigaOS 3.9 system

I agree with you, in this instance.
