AROS: Ordered This Selling This
« on: June 18, 2011, 08:11:04 AM »
Ordered this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140562681912&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Going to sell my Presario C712NR.

The Presario came close to working, but the Ethernet Port, though a Realtek, did not seem to work, plus from what I'm seeing, I may not be able to swap out the internal Wifi for another, so naturally I thought to my self. Should I dick with this machine anymore? After all it is larger than what I'd like it to be, or should I just hunt down an Aspire One.

As you can see, I took the easy way out and bought a compatible Aspire One using info from this page:

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Aros/Platforms/x86_Complete_System_HCL#HP_Compaq

Tis only a shame that there not a single tested laptop out there that fully supports AROS, NVIDIA included.

Heh, got new Acer in mail, turns on for 30 seconds, shuts off. :(

I don't think I am meant to run Aros.

Will check memory and hard drive seating.

Acts the same in bios. Acts the same when plugged in without battery.

Hmmm, went home on break. Opened only trap door, nothing there, not even connectors. Patted lap top lightly on leg2 times. Boots fine, RAMmand hard drive are showing up, Aros installing. Now... How to set up wireless internet?

Hmm, well I got off work, went home, the install was finished. Shut down Laptop, Grub began to load, then said it could not find...

...something I forget what.

Wow, never saw that happen before. Guess I'll try again then go onto the Networking bit.

Hmm, will have to try. My memory tells me it didn't work before but I could be wrong, or maybe it was a long time ago and it just did not work then.

I'm also getting the latest nightly build from the page so if all else fails, I'll try that method.

Thankx for the tip!

Setting up the work partition did the trick.

Now to find PrBOOM Plus for this thing... ;)

In the mean time, I will say that this laptop is running AROS better than I've seen it run before, though it still is not good with multi-tasking which leads to a system freeze time and time again. Also I noticed when I am moving something like a Gb of movies from a USB drive to the Hard Drive then start opening windows and dragging them, that they leave trails like I'm tripping on Acid. Fun fun. :/

Quake runs choppy in software mode. Can't get it to full screen yet, but if I stretch out the window that is when problems really begin to appear.

I tried to emulate the latest Alien Fish finger from within the emulated Work Bench environment, but for what ever reason it would not pick up on my joystick even though I have had no issues when trying to load ADF images into emulation.

I did get the wireless to see my router, now I'm about to goto the local library and test it on the internet there.

Lots of games do not detect my USB joystick including Giana Sisters which plays just fine on MorphOS with the same joystick.

Oh and btw, ScummVM on the latest IcarOS is WAY out of date, had to up date that.

Will report more in time. Thankx for all the help.
