How close are we to making AROS easy to install? :) Right now it makes IRIX look easy!

Isnt that hard with the new Installer.
The only Bug I know of, is that you have to quit wanderer after starting the Installer, or the partitioning will fail.
If you do that, it should work fine.

Read the Installer test:

I finally donated.  :-)

My donation looked a bit puny, so I added the rest of my Paypal funds.

Dammy: Can you change my name/id on the donation page to something shorter, like madsjm or Mads M?

For the most part, we rather have the Dev decide what the best way to do it. He does have the option in asking the aros-dev ML on input if he is not sure which would be best.

Of course, and I wasn't suggesting that you should tell the dev what to do. I was suggesting that maybe TeamAROS should make some _suggestions_ on how it might be approached. Consensus can build confidence, and AROS discussing an approach might give that confidence to someone actually give it a try.

But I'm just thinking out loud here. :)

After reading the bounty description I have a suggestion, why not change the title from "UAE integration" to "68k JIT"? At least when I read UAE the first thing that comes to mind is running some good ol' classic amiga games; but from the description I think the idea is that it works like OSX Rosetta by using the AROS api (instead of loading a legacy kickstart ROM) and recompiling on the fly 68k instructions to run application software. If people have in mind a window inside AROS running an ocs/ecs/aga virtual machine that can share the clipboard, CD-ROM, hard disk, ethernet, etc. maybe that should be called "UAE integration Phase II: Legacy Virtual Machine"

Would it be able to run any classic games, then? Or at least WHDLoad?

Ok, now I'm really interested.  I have a list of what's needed to make it work.
Try blazedmongers new Free Universal Computer kit, available with the GUI toolkit Your Own Universe, the popular IT edition, Extremely Reliable System for embedded work, Enhanced Database development and Wide Area Development system for telecommuting.

The first step would be an utility that creates/mounts adf/hfs files natively in AROS. :-)

I took the description to mean that yes, classic games should run, but that getting classic games to run is not enough.  After all, UAE can already do that.  The integration part is in making the applications launch directly, without having to run a UAE front end first.  It should just look like a native app.

It should also be further enhanced for workbench applications by allowing windows to open directly to the workbench, and use local resources.

So, I didn't take the bounty as doing less than UAE, but doing everything that UAE does plus some extra stuff.

What part of it? The text uses the word "apps" once and "application" twice and mentions four application software programs by name, but there is not even one mention of the word "game" or a game name in the whole text. Maybe AROS developers also had games in mind, but then they should update the bounty page text.

I think application is being used as a general word meaning program. After all the title says 'UAE Integration' - UAE runs Amiga 68k games.

Does saying "Santa is going to get you some cool application software this christmas" sounds right to you? Unless said kid gets giddy thinking about the newest version of excel, it does not make sense if you are thinking about games.

Rosetta is an OSX integrator, but any games that talked directly to the hardware will fail (since Mac games are in color they seldom do that, quite the opposite of amiga games where games seldom do not talk directly to the hardware).

Remind me why you are being so pedantic again? If UAE integration does not mean one game will work then it isn't UAE intergration. UAE emulates Amiga hadware - not just the hardware for 'applications' to work. I'm sure the bounty was worded as such without games mentioned to stop people saying "Oh I will only donate if SWOS will work" or another million or so games. Now stop being pedantic and donate some money!!!!

@little
For Games, UAE Integration is pointless.
You can already play them using UAE in the usual way.
You probably think of double clicking an adf file and the game starts ?

UAE Integration is meant this way:

You Double Click a 68k Application, and it directly starts in an UAE Window and behaves more or less like a native AROS Program.

Why are people thinking games = full screen program that has no interaction with the file system / OS?

If i play a game where I could normally save my progress to the HD then i would want that from the UAE integration. And what about Workbench games?

I want to be able to fire up AROS, double click on the Syndicate icon, Syndicate load and then, load my save game from my AROS partition.
