Title: Don't fear electric car price cuts
Post by: SysAdmin on August 14, 2013, 05:53:11 AM
Comparing the Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA (http://www.insidermonkey.com/insider-trading/company/tesla+motors+inc/1318605/)) Model S to the General Motors Company (NYSE:GM (http://www.insidermonkey.com/insider-trading/company/general+motors+co/1467858/)) Chevrolet Volt is not exactly fair. Of course(http://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png) (http://www.insidermonkey.com/blog/tesla-motors-inc-tsla-general-motors-company-gm-dont-fear-price-declines-in-the-ev-market-220688/#), the fact that these are both electric vehicles will have people making comparisons for many years to come. From a pricing(http://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png) (http://www.insidermonkey.com/blog/tesla-motors-inc-tsla-general-motors-company-gm-dont-fear-price-declines-in-the-ev-market-220688/#) point of view, these two cars are not in the same ballpark. The Model S can top out over $90,000, according to this piece (http://www.autonews.com/article/20130725/BLOG06/130729925/dont-let-the-price-fool-you-tesla-says-the-model-s-is-not-a-luxury#axzz2bqfMBzig)  by Vince Bond, while the Volt is nowhere near as expensive with a price  of $27,495 after applying the $7,500 federal tax credit. The interesting thing, at this point, is that the Chevrolet has dropped the price of the Volt, according to Mike Colias (http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20130812/RETAIL/308129955/decoding-the-volts-price-cut#axzz2bqfMBzig)  of Automotive News, with a new sticker price, including shipping, of  $34,995. This is a decrease of approximately $5,000, when compared to  average sticker prices(http://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png) (http://www.insidermonkey.com/blog/tesla-motors-inc-tsla-general-motors-company-gm-dont-fear-price-declines-in-the-ev-market-220688/#) from the previous year.
