Do I need a computer with nothing on it or a computer running Windows or Linux with AROS running on it?
What type of hardware do I need to run AROS well and what, if any, other software do I need?

AROS is about options.  You can have a bare computer system and run AROS natively.  You can have a system with multiple OSs on it and run AROS natively (though it's a tough install).  You can have Windbloat, Linux, OS-X and run AROS via an x86 emulator. Perhaps the end of this summer, you'll have the choice of running it natively on EFIKA.  Personally, I run AROS natively as the solo OS on a laptop.
