Title: TeamAROS Update
Post by: dammy on February 04, 2007, 05:50:03 PM
As I slowly recover (mega thanks to Olivier2222) from a OS upgrade gone bad, I am pleased to announced that viarhine.device (http://thenostromo.com/teamaros2/?number=37) and DOS Packet (http://thenostromo.com/teamaros2/?number=40) bounties have been assigned.  TeamAROS and TeamAROS-Benefactors MLs are now also back.

And please join off of us AROS supporters in wishing Michal Schulz luck on his Ph.D test in less then two weeks. :lotsacoffee:

Yeah, both bounties are near the 90% completion mark.  Just that last 10% tend to be the worst part of a project. I really can't wait for the viarhine.device driver.  I've got alpha release so I can atleast ping stuff, lol.  DragNdrop has worked just fine from what testing that I've done with it.  Developer just wants to add one final capability, which isn't really called for specifically in the bounty, but he just wants it perfect.

Great news! Things seems to be moving fast in the last month or so.

Are there any developer/s contemplating on taking the Installer Bounty? Any work on this bounty behind the scenes?  :-D

Replacement for the Kickstart ROM bounties look unwanted by anyone. :-(

Any news on the X86-64 bounty? Other than the developer defending his PhD thesis.

Don't for get to donate (http://www.thenostromo.com/teamaros2/) to a bounty!

One of the devs have been some patching to the existing installation software, so it works on more systems now. I still have a Dell that refuses to install AROS.  OTOH, my laptop is a pure AROS laptop.  :-D

Large projects really do large amount of "loving".  This is indeed an important step in freeing all of us from Amiga Inc, it's also alot of work.

Michal told me that is next on his priority after he does the final bit of work on USB bounty.  I'm trying to get Michal to take installer bounty first, but I don't think I'm going to succeed.

I'd like to see GRUB support a filesystem other than FFS... such as SFS...

Good to see Robert Norris on Dos Packets.  Seems like a real smart fellow.

TeamAROS Sponors page is being (thanks to Olivier2222) updated (http://thenostromo.com/teamaros2/index.php?query=sponsors).     As you can see, AROS is slowly gaining corporate sponsorships for different bounties.

I'm happy to report that the initial commit to the AROS SVN for DOS Packet (http://thenostromo.com/teamaros2/?number=40) support was submitted today.  Rob should be updating his blog (http://cataclysm.cx/) shortly.

Awesome! Now networking will work on my machine, since I too am using the VIA Rhine chip.

Now if we can just get a web browser with the capabilities of !!!NETSCAPE 4!!! we'll be getting somewhere.

What's the Kickstart bounty?

I know this is a tall order, but for me there is only one way AROS will ever be a feasible alternative to 68k AmigaOS and that is with the following:

1. Integrated UAE with JIT
2. Full networking support
3. The ability to boot (a) on a MacBok or (b) inside Parallels Desktop on a MacBook.

The path to completely replace the copyrighted Amiga Kickstart image for EUAE.  Eventually, it would start replacing you kickstart ROMs in real Amiga machines (it would have to be tweaked for individual Amiga series of course).  That would be a ton of work and AROS would need a ton of support from the 68k Amiga Community.

See UAE Integration bounty (http://thenostromo.com/teamaros2/?number=7) that EvilRich said he would like to do, once he has enough time to dedicated to it.  He was orginally talking about starting it last December, haven't heard back from him.

Just use VM and your set.  If your looking for a PPC solution, EFIKA will be the first PPC machine for native PPC AROS.

Cool! A new kickstart would be awesome.

I suppose UAE could be integrated using scripts so when you double click a game it just launches with all the correct settings for UAE. But being able to run a WHDLoad game would be just amazing :-)

Any particular virtualisation software recommended?

BTW, Rob has give AROS some extra loving, FAT16 and FAT32 read.  Time is ticking away to donate to this bounty, just click on the button next to the dos packet bounty on the TeamAROS Home Page (http://www.teamaros.org).
