Has this gone?? IT was a great resource that I referred to all the time. Please tell me the data has not gone?
If the album feature is not going to be replicated, is it possible to keep the old data available for viewing?

For one time, it seems I have to totally 100% agree with you, lol...

Come on guys, the site has just been moved to an entirely new platform. It will take time to implement the old features. Comparable modules need to be identified and evaluated, tests have to be done.
Having done various bespoke data migration at work, I can honestly say you should be happy the translation has gone so well this far.
-
I have done a fair bit of data migration to between sites.

Then you will know it doesn't always happen overnight.

Sure, all I asked was if it is not possible to migrate, don't delete.

As I said many, many, *many* times before the swapover, nothing has been "deleted". All the data has been saved in multiple backups. As Karlos pointed out however. vBulletin (a forum software) did not magically include an image album.
I'm searching for the best option now to allow us to have one but even then, a simple migration may not be possible since image galleries have to manually process uploads to create thumbnails and other images from each single original.
What that would mean is that each image would have to be manually input by one or more individuals. If you were really concerned about the album, we could always use your help in that regard.

in other words each person would upload their pictures into their new "Albums"
or something like that.

If and when you come up with a plan for this... and you need any help... I'm more than willing to help out in any way that I can. I'm a techie by trade... not familiar with vBulletin but I'm a fast learner! PM me if you think there is anything I can help you with.

Actually, personal albums (the feature you're asking about) is a bit different than the global gallery (what used to be the images button) we're discussing.
I'm still looking for an alternative to the old global gallery. Found a great one, but it's costly and I'm thinking surely a freebie has to be around somewhere.

Thanks Roadie.
That's the kind of help and community involvement we have always needed around here. I'll let you know.

What's the chance the old picture album could be made available for viewing but locked for new posts?

Unfortunately, zero.
When Xoops accepted the upload, most filenames were given a 16-bit random string as a filename, meaning they're nonsensical at best. Short of simply dumping 3000 images into a leechable open directory -- which means that we'd get slammed with bandwidth costs by everyone grabbing every image repeatedly -- there's no chance of that happening.
I'm afraid, just like news, that you'll simply have to be patient.

Some of the images are cached on archive.org (old though since archive.org hasn't crawled since 2008 (robots.txt i guess) )
http://web.archive.org/web/20071224113050rn_1/amiga.org/gallery/photos/x.jpg
where x is the number of the image (lid). if someone wanted a specific image they could probably browse archive.org, and then manually enter the number. xoops named the images after the "lid" in the myalbum_photos table (that also contains the title etc)
this will download those which are available (bash/shell script)
for i in `seq 1 2500`; do wget "http://web.archive.org/web/20071224113050rn_1/www.amiga.org/gallery/photos/$i.jpg"; done;

I'm sure if everyone donated a dollar each we could go with the best solution you find.
Now that Kitty's back and all. ;)

I see....well, I'm a very patient person and will not complain about this.
frankly, you and the others (Karlos and his socks) have done quite a nice and easy transition. I'm pleased this went so well. Not surprised, of course.
