Title: Amiga Games (Upgrades)
Post by: trekiej on June 12, 2015, 05:41:02 PM
I have seen games on Youtube, com that talk about being upgraded with High Resolution packs.
Duke Nukem is such a game.
On the Amiga, would it be possible to update games without updating the game engine itself.
I do not know if the writer of the game looked ahead to higher resolutions and textures.
Making a new game may be a better idea.
Thanks.

Have the old games play in emulator on real 68k. You could adjust screen and other parts. I mean to give it a try on 68030 Amiga with UAE.

Most games are programmed to run in only one specific resolution (the exception being a handful of Doom clones, but playing them at high resolutions is a painfully-jerky experience unless you have a very fast system).

There's a few games out there that differ: I recall RoboSport had the option of playing at 320x200 or 640x400, if you played it in the high res mode you could see 4x as much of the playing field at once.  Also supported network play and a few other advanced features, but games which were that "forward thinking" are few & far between!  :(

I tell you, one thing I'd really like is a patch to make AlienBreed 3D run in 1*1 pixel mode.

Hard Coded came to mind after I posted my comments.
I wonder if UAE will run games that do not use Workbench.
The new Hollywood Plug-in may make a difference in this area.
I believe the owners of Amiga OS 3.X could put there seal of approval on certain versions of Winuae and others if they wanted.
We could use an official emulator.
