Just buy the bare bones, and install your own board. Then you can have a core i3, i5, or i7. Thats what I will do, as I like the case.

Although I have seen some useful and creative mods using old cases, it still will look crappy compared to a new case designed to mount Mini itx board. The keyboard is nice also. Mine will have a core i5 and windows 7. Doesn't that really make you want to cry.

Vic slim looks the best and is pretty good value. I bought a small dell which gets hot and sounds like a 707 taking off from ebay for the missus - the Vic slim looks (and probably sounds) much nicer! Dual Atom is probably better user experience than single (albiet fast) celeron.

I might get one anyway and resell the optiplex!
