Commercial software made using Hollywood Designer
« on: December 26, 2011, 12:33:31 AM »
News from FerruleMedia via amigaorld.net

Earlier this month we could read some great news from RMS-Communications, a company using Hollywood Designer to produce commercial software. As a follow up I would like to write an update from Ferrule Media ā€“ another proof of concept that it is indeed possible to make commercial software using Hollywood Designer and OS4.1.

Ferrule Media now offers three products developed using the excellent Hollywood Designer. Our main product ā€“ Dental Info 4.5 has evolved to become the market leading information-software used by dentists in Norway. Even if most of our customers are private dentists, two counties ordered the software in 2011 and will use it at all their public dental healthcare-clinics. Dental Info was also ordered by The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Bergen, to be used by students at Department of Clinical Dentistry.

Recently the Danish division of Plandent, one of the most important dental suppliers in Europe, secured the rights to market and sell Dental Info in Denmark.

The infochannel Dental Kanal is offered running on Sam-machines from Acube. Our new product Dental Web was also partly made with the help of Designer. Hollywood Designer offers the clever option to convert presentations into .avi-files. This way it was very easy to adapt the content of our infochannel to be used on web pages.

Our Norwegian homepage has been updated with information about all three products ā€“ visit it at http://www.ferrule-media.no

None of these products would have been possible without the amazing support from Andreas Falkenhahn of Airsoft Softwair. We have been very lucky to work closely with him the last few years. As an example Andreas has developed an integration between Dental Info and four different dental journal systems. He is very professional and never misses a deadline. We can surely recommend him to everyone looking for a freelance coding expert.

The Amiga community finally seems to be growing. Os4.1 is developed and improved at a steady pace, and new hardware is coming. Iā€™m also certain that Airsoft Softwair will continue to surprise us all with new features in Hollywood. Let us hope that the year 2012 will bring a lot of people back to the Amiga.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Thanks!

Hollywood Designer really is an amazing program - we don't have any programmers in Ferrule Media - only dentists.  Still we are able to make software to compete with much larger companies.

Hollywood + Designer deserves all the attention it could get - we need to take care of the last few remaining commercial developers in the amgia community.

To those still not familiar with Hollywood, check out the following homepages :

Those who purchase the software -- are they using it on a Windows platform?

Hello.

Dental Info is running on Windows (since it needs to communicate with the dental journal systems also running on Windows). Dental Kanal is sold running on Sam-machines from Acube. Dental Web is hosted on regular web-servers.

Hollywood is able to make executables to windows, amigaOS, MorphOS, MacOS, Linux +++

Here are a few pictures from the Norwegian dental convention "Nordental 2011". We were present demonstrating the products. As always the infochannel Dental Kanal is running on a Sam 440ep from Acube.

How does Hollywood compare to it's competitors in the Mac & PC world?

What we\'re witnessing is the sad, lonely crowing of that last, doomed cock.

hmm.. difficult to say how it compares.

Hollywood is in fact a multimedia oriented programming language. Hollywood Designer is an add on / graphical frontend to hollywood (to make slideshows, some kind of software etc). I could compare Hollywood Designer to Scala infochannel available on amgia, and Hollywood Designer is of course much more powerful.

Our main reasons for using Hollywood + Designer are the following:

1) It is available on amigaOS (making it fun to work with)
2) Hollywood is able to create working executables to most platforms
3) Beeing able to communicate directly with the developer of Hollywood - if we need new features in Hollywood Andreas is very helpful in making them a reality.
4) Designer is easy to use, and is very powerful once you get the hang of it :)
5) The sofware gets a lot of features with a simple click.. like a very powerful scaling-engine, expire-dates, activation-codes +++

I have used Designer for several years now - the latest versions have been very good! I have not bothered to to look for similars programs on pc or macOS :)

best regards

Really outstanding. That's the kind of solution that could reposition the Amiga platform on the market.
