@Rose:

"Eyetech quietly informed the members of its Yahoogroups list of a similar chip on the A1 mobos some time before. They didn't feel they urge to blow trumpets, parade and preen, while conveying bugger all except FUD."

I'm very happy for Eyetech.

The April chip affair sort of reminds me of typical Buck rhetoric: "We are the only ones who can do things right. Everyone else can't, and even if it turns out they can their solution must be crap anyway."

True, the two boards of of different size thus different design. Not to mention different firmware and software.

Staying tuned.

P.S. Why would MAI be signing deals to distribute if their Artica chipset didn't work as advertized?

So this "April" chip is nothing more then the Artica S on a bit of board and a couple of Gals/Pals?

Uh huh....  :-?

"Neither, to be honest, does announcing that you've hacked up a couple of GAL to patch a couple of bugs until the chip manufacturer has time to produce chips with the fixes built-in.
Eyetech quietly informed the members of its Yahoogroups list of a similar chip on the A1 mobos some time before. They didn't feel they urge to blow trumpets, parade and preen, while conveying bugger all except FUD. "

LIES LIES LIES

It was announced, it was written on their website before Thendic/Bplan made any announcement.

Bplan find the bug, go to MAI, find a solution provide it to MAI.
Then,Eyetech announce they have fixed board  :-x

Bplan find other bugs and then create the April chip

I'am very sad with the last Alan posts.
First SARL and EURL companies are the most common in France.
Then Thendic HAS very good  technical people that work as permanent employees. I would never dare to compare them to an Amigaone betatester who is a 40 years old lady that know nothing about computers.

If you really want to speak about weak companies let's speak about Hyperion next time ...

What a pile of FUD and insults from a Genesi apologist.

Grow up whiner. Hyperion and Eyetech have had just as much input as bGenesiThendicPlan on finding faults with the Artica-S and creating fixes for the problem. They didn't make a massive press release and post it on all the damned amiga websites they could find, raising expectations and all that. That is microsoftian tactics, and these do not belong in the amiga market.

And what is weak about Hyperion? They have proved themselves extremely capable already of handling the OS creation, and of creating a BIOS that can handle ALL generic PCI and AGP cards, and this is the BIOS that MAI are using for their boards now.

Hmm.

As I understand it, there was an original (relatively serious)
bug of the ArticiaS, first discovered when used in a
desktop machine. Eyetech solved this with a chip on their
boards (looking somewhat different on the AONE-SE and the -XE).
Later, smaller, bugs of the board was considered
normal "day-to-day" considerations for such a relatively
new (desktop) board - something to be taken care of in
 software (in AOS4).

The theory of Alan (who, we must remember,  is a
competitor to Thendic) was that the hardware fix made
for the Pegasos (similar to the hardware fix on AOne)
had for some physical fitting reasons to have two GALs,
whereas they opted to include the software fix in the
spare space instead of doing it in the OS later. This
theory fits to some extent with Bill Buck mentioning that
"...it should really be done in hardware, not software...".

Guess we'll have to wait and see if BPlan has indeed
discovered some, to Eyetech unknown, mega-bug to
which they have the ultimate solution, or not. The fact
remains though, that if the April fix is indeed only to the
problems outlined above, testing it on an AmigaONE
without AOS4 (and the software fix it will supposedly
incooperate) is a rather moot exercise.
