AmigaOS4.0 screenshots (Screenmode Prefs)

Why is it that in every OS4.0 screenshot there is with ScreenMode Preferences visible, gfx-cards name is hidden with other windows etc.? It seems to be intentional, if you look through them all.

I'd say because officialy no cards are supported yet. But ATI radeons 7000-8500 are a safe bet.

I'll let you into a little secret here, if you promise not to tell anyone else........................................ :-D

All the current screenshots would have come off of an Amiga with either a Voodoo or a BVision derivative. How do I know this? Well OS4 was not running on the AmigaOne at the time of the screenshots being published, so only the current RTG solutions would be available.

To be quite honest, I'd not worry about this at all. The initial release of OS4 will be for 'Classic' machines with PPC accelerators. Since owners of these machines will, invariably, have GFX cards, these will be supported first. As and when OS4 for the AmigaOne is finished, new GFX drivers (inc Radeon support  :-D ) will become available. Even then, the new 3D GFX system (NOVA) doesn't look as though it will be ready for the initial OS4.0 build (probably OS4.1?), so initial advantages over the current cards will not seem that great.

Aye, I noticed that too.... and I have an idea why. Look at this one:

I compared the text to that set in my screenmode prefs in os3.5. From what I can see the card name can't be much longer than 3 characters.

Its possible that these screenshots were taken under UAE as this is the only 3 letter "card" name I've come across (I've not seen many gfx cards in amigas mind).

Not everyone has a gfx card in their amiga so its possible the developer copied the program to UAE (or is developed in....seems unlikely though) to use a PC gfx card to demonstrate high screen resolutions and screen depths.

Not really a problem, if what I've said is true then hyperion pobably decided to hide the fact it was running in UAE to prevent this becoming another pointless reason for those who would slag off hyperion etc to have a winge about. Not that it matters how the program is developed, aslong as it runs on the AmigaOne I'm sure we'll all be happy :-D

Nah, I think you're wide of the mark here. Think back through the last few shows where elements of OS4 have been shown. What were they being shown on?
 An AmigaOne? Nope.
A PC with UAE? Nope.
A 'Classic' Amiga with a PPC accelerator/GFX card? Yup.

The Hyperion guys are well known for their anti AmigaX86 stance, I very much doubt they'd willingly run UAE to test OS4 components on.

I could be wrong, but it has never happened yet :-P

The UAE-P96-driver is called uaegfx and not just uae.

My guess an A4000 with Zorro-card.

Why ? AFAIK there is no driver in P96 for the Permedia-cards and
one can just hope that someone is working on them.

Voodoo might have worked with Prometheus, but I somehow doubt that
they have used PCI here.

I guess it is just them being careful with supported/unsupported cards then.
