Title: Aladdin4D is not totally useless yet
Post by: Ral-Clan on March 13, 2013, 06:46:26 PM
Hi,

I've been working on a video project that involves a sort of moon base setting.  I was initially going to build physical models, but due to the physical space that required decided to do my first ever major project in 3d modelling.  I've been learning Aladdin4d, but this by far the most detailed project I've ever had to do with it.

The animation involves a sort of lunar base with several connected buildings, a communications tower, external power reactor, landing pads, lunar rover vehicles and a sort of lunar hopper vehicle.  All the models were hand-modelled from scratch by me.

Anyway, I thought I would upload some "in-progress" images just for fun. Please note - THESE ARE NOT FINAL - they are just the unshaded, untextured, un-surfaced polygon models, with no colour added.  So all the little polygon facets are visible and not blended, and there are no light sources (or even a lunar ground) added.

Just thought I'd upload this because we don't hear about many Amiga 3d modelling projects done with classic software anymore. Aladdin has quite a learning curve, but from what I've seen it's quite powerful, and runs on a "modern" amiga OS installation very well.

These are just some thumbnails rendered at fairly low resolutions. Aladdin can render at hi-def TV resolutions and beyond (which is what I will do for the final animation).

You need to click on the images to enlarge them.

Any chance we can see a how-to one of these days?  :)

Yeah, I was thinking about that - as I've figured some things out in Aladdin4d that are either not spelled out clearly in the manual or just plain wrong in the manual.  But there'd have to be an actual audience - as it is I think I might be the only person still actually using Aladdin4d nowadays.

There were some Aladdin 4d tutorial videos released by the original programmer. I think if you're a member of EAB you might know where to look for these.

I may find it useful, no promises though :)  I've got a full toaster machine sitting here and I have paid for a copy of Alladin4d, which I believe is installed (need to check on that...)

man, I remember paying dearly for Aladdin4D but just like Imagine 2.0 I never could get it to render anything.
