It's something I've known for a long time. The Republicans simply deny and try to discredit any form of scientific evidence that doesn't support their polices. Global warming, conservation, dwindling oil supplies, corporate pollution, abstinance teens all getting knocked up, it goes on. The EPA in particular have been complaining about interference with its meticulous scientific studies for a long time, despite the claims of a certain user here that global warming was bad science made up by the IPCC. The only bad science here comes from a few mavericks supported and funded by corporate interests.

This, for example, made the news when it was first discovered:

" A 2003 report that the administration sought changes in an Environmental Protection Agency climate study, including deletion of a 1,000-year temperature record and removal of reference to a study that attributed some of global warming to human activity.

...simply because it didn't support the Bush administration's anti-Kyoto claims. Luckily the EPA are independent of the Federal Government, which is why America is a cleaner nation than most European countries.
