Tell us your theory about the universe.
« on: March 23, 2004, 01:23:16 PM »
I am very interested in the universe
and my highest goal in life
is to understand its general aspects, or 'secrets'.

With 'Universe' I mean what it appears to have at present.
large clusters of galaxies
wich in turn have many stars. (highly various types of suns).

Now many of you would probably want to say
"It started with a big bang, and is expanding."
But that theory could fall/is falling apart
because of its assumptions, like dark energy and matter,
that I wont go in detail with here.

What I want with this thread
is that if ANYone has ANY theory about the universe,
NOMATTER how simple, radical, complicated or far out it is,
then please tell.
Note that you dont need to assume
that stars and galaxies exist.
So you can disbelieve them if your theory says they dont really exist.

It might be hard to create a theory
just like that, so I have set up some questions below
that you can use to elaborate your theory:
(You are free to skip as many you like)

1-Did the universe in your theory have a start?

1a-How did it start? What form/shape did it have at this time?

1b-Did something exist before its start?

1c-In short, How did it evolve from its start?

2-How will you describe the universe in your theory at this time?

2a-What form/shape does it have at this time?
  (ex: Spheric/ball eternal/endless/without borders)

2b-Is it expanding, contracting, or something like that?

3-Does this theory have other universal laws
in place of, or ontop of what scientists
  have formulated before you?

3a-What general effects does these laws produce?
(ex: gravity making matter pull on all other matter)

4-Does the universe in your theory have an end?

4a-How will it end? What form/shape will it have right before?

4b-Will there exist anything after it?

5-Has the universe in your theory -always- existed?
(ex: eternal in time, or is looping)

6-Is the universe in your theory one of many?

6a-Are all universes alike, or different?

6b-Is there a limit to the amount of universes?

7-How much do you yourself believe in this theory?

8-Does your theory lack anything?

9-Is it possible to test your theory? (how?/why not?)

The entire world is a program fabricated by machines of artificial intelligence that have overrun the planet. These machines feed off "sleeping" humans as a battery source to continue their own existence...

Oops, wrong thread :-D

There's only one problem with that theory, bloodline, and that is "what do you feed the humans with" :-)  In the film, it said 'the dead liquified and fed to the living', but how many dead people would you have to feed to the live ones each day, and how quickly do you run out of people :-)

Come on Mikey!!! I was only pulling your plonka :-D

Of course THermodynamics rules out the "battery" theory of why humans were enslaved... I recon that the machine were hiding the real reason... there were using Huamns as processing nodes on their network!!! :-o

Hm, maybe we're livin' in one of more space bubbles and it might grow too big one day and collapse, or come in touch with another space. I hardly can think of one, always. Maybe there are even completely other things beyond the borders of space. :-)

Since reading up on this, I have no idea how the universe got here, or how it works.

What I have worked out is my brain can't seem to hold concepts inside it very long. Therefore it MUST be impossible to figure out how anything works as all our brains are pretty similar.

So to conclude, err... where was I going with this banter???

Thanx to you serious guys for posting
inbetween the junk posts.

Mike_amiga: The human brain is limited,
and I agree
that everyone might have some similar knowledge,
and that is why I think we will uncover the secrets
of the universe much easier if we work togheter
and tell eachother what we think.

At present I think the universe is eternal
both in space and time
so that there is no start or end.

Or it is a part of a 100000 times bigger universe
that is eternal both in space and time.

Something along those lines.

To be honest I don't really have any of my own theories, all of the the theories in my head were put there by various parts of the media but mainly watching too much TV.

Theories about activities, examples: how to help prevent an airliner for being hijacked, how to evade enemy capture, how to boil an egg etc.

Conspiracy theories, examples: aliens/abductions, the unknown, parallel universes etc.

Obviously I haven’t listed all the theories that have turned up in the media, but should be enough to give you an idea of the sort of theories that have been bought to my attention.

Maybe we're just Gods staging area... A prototype, and a bad one at that, for what he will ultimately create in the REAL universe.
