Title: Major Tom
Post by: blobrana on February 03, 2006, 08:34:46 PM
In a weird experiment, the launch of the novel "SuitSat" satellite from the International Space Station is just under two hours away...
At 23:20 Central European Time the Space Station Crew  are due to start an spacewalk.  However, a third Orlan spacesuit will be on the spacewalk with them, one that stuffed with a transmitter. The plan is literally to throw the extra spacesuit overboard. The suit is fitted with amateur radio equipment, which will transmit messages in many different languages during its time in orbit.

Current Position (http://www.suitsat.org/plot.cgi?last=240&call=&geo=world1.geo), as well as the 5 and 10 minute future positions.

The spacesuit with equipment is called Suitsat-1 (also called Radio Sputnik or Radioskaf in Russian), and can be tuned into from Earth  on an FM downlink frequency of 145.99 MHz
The call sign is RS0RS

Hum,
it was so cool that the batteries stopped working after two orbits, and the transmissions stopped...

It is now officially space junk....

It was a student prank.
