I had thought this was April Fools since it happened on the 1st but it still looks real today.

Can it be true? Could the company that pioneered a great many things on the Amiga finally be sold?

On one side I see the value in the merger of these two companies as they do compliment each other. Negatively this will mean that there legacy products like Speed Edit certainly wont get any more support and there was no mention of Lightwave in this article.
Newtek has been around since the beginning of non liner affordable production in the early 90s and although parts and availability to do repairs on the old Toaster/Flyer boards they honored their warranty forever (I sent my toaster 4000 board to them in the mid 2000s and they fixed and sent it back free of charge) who offers that kind of support these days!
-
Hopefully it all goes well for NewTek.

New interview about the merger.

@tonyvdb it's not as if SpeedEdit has gotten any support for years. It's sad because it is one of the best editers.
-
Yea, I was sad when SpeedEDIT died, I own two copies of it. Windows Movie Maker died too, I was happy about that.
:D

I just hope (if true) things go well fro NewTek...I was so inspired by the original Lightwave on Amiga in the early 90s..truly amazing for its time

Wow, I know I'm late to the game, but just got a Toaster Oven variety of system, and trying to put some other things in it and get it all working happy, and am just about to post something about a potential bug I found in 3.1.4 related to the toaster. Kind of always thought that's the one reason to go real hardware instead of emulation, can't emulate a Toaster yet!
-
........ can't emulate a Toaster yet!
I thought you could with "Open Toaster".

What's the bug you found? Is it something new with 3.1.4 or one of the old ones from under 3.1?

I am not sure, but I think it might be the long filenames. Pfs3 gets further along, but 3.1.4 with ffs and long filenames craps out at "Installing AI.dat" I created a different post for it. https://forum.amiga.org/index.php?topic=74351.msg845830#new

Huh, everything I saw about Open Video Toaster I could find was that you had to compile it yourself and the compile was broken currently. Maybe I am thinking of something else though because I have been jumping around looking things up.

Figures! :) ;) :D ;D >:( :( :o 8) ??? ::)
I mean about Open Toaster.........
-
I assumed from this on the Open Video Toaster that it's really software meant for not AmigaOS 3.x https://www.discreetfx.com/openvideotoaster.html
-
Parts of the Amiga Video Toaster can be run in emulation without the Toaster hardware. They should also run fine in AmigaOS 4.1 & MorphOS. I haven’t tested it with 3.1.4 yet.

Hmm, good point I should be able to run the Aros version, right? Considering in theory it is 3.1 API compatible? Granted, I would also assume it would have to contain a 68k binary vs a PPC or x86_64 one.
-
I have no idea if it would run under AROS, give it a try. If it does not run the full source is available so it could be updated to run.
