DVD viewer options
« on: March 14, 2007, 10:39:10 PM »
Did this thread awhile back, but not ready to give up on it just yet...  Is there any configuration which will allow my 060 A1200T to view DVD's?  The previous responses were unanimous that there just wasn't enough power! Which is true I guess, since I can't view avi's either, or can I? :roll:  :idea:

As in watching video? Can't be done at the moment. Elbox were supposedly writing drivers for MPEG2 decoder boards, but they haven't appeared.

@Matt
yea it's crazy that we may be able to burn a DVD, but not watch what we burn, I hope the elbox board in question is not contingent on the OS4.0 port to classic! :getmad:

Are MPEG2 decoder boards still available anywhere?

Smooth DVD playback in the PC world (in my experience) requires at least a Pentium II 350-400MHz, and a graphics card with some sort of hardware acceleration.

So the good old '060 will definitely struggle...

Even MPEG-1 VideoCD-style playback (352x288 MPEG1 video stream with MP2 audio at 44.1KHz/192kbps) is unrealistic for 680x0 Amigas. Again, in the PC world, this required something in the region of a 120MHz Pentium).
