from Miami to Genesis problems
« on: November 11, 2005, 07:14:56 PM »
in my endevors to make sure I'm 100% legal, I'm trying to install a copy of Genesis 1.0.6 that i bought.

I've been running the copy of Miami deluxe that came installed on the A4000 when I got it without a hitch.  But Genesis can't seem to connect to my router at all.

Also, when I disconnect with Genesis, it locks up the whole system.

PS- I've tried putting all the info (IP, Netmask, etc.) in manually and still nothing.

Yup, thats because Genesis does not support DHCP (automatic connection and setup to your router) You will need to manually enter in all the information from your ISP to make it work. Thats the one good thing Miami has over Genesis.

Howdy.  I recently began using Genesis also.  I was a Termite user.  In order to make it work I used our emachine as the host and was able to hook my A1200 into our netgear router.  But you do have to enter the setup by hand.

My gateway address is 192.168.0.1, destination is 192.168.0.2 and IP is 192.168.0.32.  This works for netgear, anyway.

Good luck.

Tankz both,

I pulled out my os 3.9 CD and tried the version on it and it worked!!!

Don't know what was wrone with the full version CD that I have but this is working just fine...

BTW, saw a DHCP prog for Genesis on aminet but it requiered ALOT of setup to get it to work.

it's called :dhcp_amitcp.lha

may give it a try later on when I have more free time.  ;)

@6:

The destination field should not be used if ethernet is used as it is not a point-to-point network.

If it is a slip/ppp connection on the other hand, then it can be used.

Hello :)

I've just upgraded my amiga 1200 to 3.1roms OS3.9 as i had only got the demo version of miami and wanted a full IP stack without a time limit.

installed 3.9, and all seems fine, online just fine via cnet.device, but it can't resolve names beyond my netgear router.

even though the netgear is DHCP, with miami, putting in a static IP on the same network worked fine.

i had the same problems with amitcp2/3/4 hence buying 3.1 roms, a 4way buffered IDE interface, a slimline slotload CD/rw, plus a copy of 3.9

can ping the router, and my PC... but nothing else..

any ideas?? might try the desination address as mentioned above...

IP   192.168.0.10
gateway 192.168.0.1 (netgear router)
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
destination -nothing-

Thanks  :-)
