Names of good "treasure hunting" streets in NYC, eh?   I can definately get you started.  Garbage 'shopping' is almost a sport in NYC.  People have their favorite "spots", kind of like with fishing...  :)  Best rule of thumb to score good garbage is stick to the rich neighborhoods, especially the "nouveau riche", or yuppie areas:  Park Slope, Carroll Street, President Street, etc..  Bay Ridge is good -- lots of really stupid people with money.   Thats where I got a pair of Magnapan MG-2 Electrostat speakers (one had a broken tweeter, $15 fix).  Also got an original Eastlake table, a Thomas Hart Benton print, tons of good good computer equipment, a Fischer tube amp, Brass locks/light fixtures/door knobs, an Atari Jaguar, furniture galore, solid hardwood plans (maple, purpleheart, magadaskar, birch, etc..).  All in the trash.  :)  Never an Amiga though.  :(

@Oldsmobile_Mike

Man.............one must never destroy Amiga stuff......thats a valuable rare item.

If you would have asked me.I could have sent you 5 CDROM drives for free and a free Slimline from a laptop.

These grow on Trees here in New York.

Im serious by the way..........CDROM drives are super cheap or free here. as far as slim line CDROM drives.I just rip them out of all the iMacs I find in the trash here in Good ole NYC.

Sheesh......heck...........I have found 2 A3000s and an A2000 and an A500 with 1084 in the trash here...............People are nuts.

have also Found 2 Pentium 4's in the trash.  one was 1.7ghz with 512mb and 40 gig HD..the other was 2.4ghz 256mb RAM

Rich people just toss these out like disposable underwear.  One mans trash in another mans treasure :-)

Thanks rich people! :-)

Did you know that millions of years into the future our universe as we have grown to know it will be sucked into a black hole. A big bang will destroy everything we built up...

...even including old 5.25 floppy drives.

@N7VQM -

Good eye!  Check here for a pic of the 1571.  The same, but only for the Amiga badge in the corner (which I saved - if only I could've made it fit somewhere!)

And as for functional, sorry, it might have been.  But where are you going to find 5 1/4 floppy disks to try it on?  Mine are all coasters from 10+ years in a damp basement, the same place I dragged the A1020 out of.  For what it's worth, I saved all the innards... :-x

Hmm....is it just my imagination or does the A1020 use the same case as the 1571?

Yeah... PLEASE say you didn't ruin a functional A1020 5.25" Amiga disk drive!

Even if it WAS broken, you should have got a push-loading slimline drive, and used the original faceplate, IMHO.

I hope, that this rare collectible piece of Amiga Hardware was broken beyond repair, before you did the modification.
