Looking for a good C64 emulator
« on: May 31, 2008, 02:32:23 PM »
Unlike the Amiga, the Commodore 64 has so many emulators to choose from? Which one is better. I plan to run every Commodore system made alongside with my WinUAE so I can complete my collection of commodore computing emulation.

Is VICE the best one?
I also plan to use it with GEOS and Contiki.
WinUAE enthusiast.

Curious about: Amiga OS, Morph OS, X-Amiga, Amikit, Amiga Forever, WinUAE, Efika, Minimig,
and other forms Amiga-like Computers.

I like VICE or VICE Plus (http://viceplus.wiki.sourceforge.net/)

But to be fair I haven't tried many others...

The only thing I really use a C64 emulator for is messing around with BASIC...  :-)
Machines:
- A1200, Blizzard 1260 w/ 64MB RAM, 1.2GB HD, PCMCIA WiFi, AGA w/ RGB Adapter, OS3.9
- Pegasos I, G3 600Mhz, 512MB, Radeon 9200se, 80GB HD, AmigaKit WiFi Card, MOS 1.4.5
- Mac Mini, G4 1.5ghz, 512MB (1GB Soon), Radeon 9200 64MB, 80GB HD, OSX 10.5 (Leopard)
- PCs, Laptops... *yawn*... :D

Doesnt Vice also emulate the C128 C16 and Vic20??
If so then this is the one you should get

Vice is fine. FRODO is slow (but maybe more compatible, but I haven't found any games which are incompatible with Vice)
Make also sure you get GameBase64, which makes it much easier and fun to get your games running.

Is there any 8-bit computers that can be emulated on classic Amiga? Running C64 games on an Amiga or better still Atari 800 games, would have a kind of irony with it...
Amiga A1200, 3.1 ROMs, Blizzard 1230 MKIV 128MB & FPU, 4GB DoM SSD, Workbench 3.1

There is AmiMSX, which emulates MSX1&2 computers. It works pretty well when you have 030 or better.

@baxyp

Cool! I have a 030 driven A1200, it would be cool to see it running as an MSX machine. I have just looked at the VICE page and see there is an Amiga version too, so I will have to try that too.
