Congratulations on being a total waste of space!
« on: October 10, 2013, 06:32:39 PM »
Seventeen threads in this forum, and a grand total of three have so much as one reply. And one of them is actually about Starcraft.

Yes, this was a forum anybody needed.

I thought admins were supposed to remove spam, not add it.

Chill out C.J.  The oldest post in the forum is only two months old and it is a Coffee House forum so they don't even show up on the front page.

You have to go looking for them!

So again, chill out and don't let Kesa stir you up, he just LOVES poking mama bears...  :D

No I don't. They show up in the new-posts list, just like all the CUSA spam that people told me I had to go looking for did.

And to get to the "New Posts" page you have to what?  Huh?  I'm sorry, did you just say first log in (this tab is not available to visitors) and specifically click on the link which is nothing more then an automated search for the latest posted topics?

UH-OH!  Did the word "search" just HAPPEN to pop out?  I'm sorry, I shouldn't use that word because that not only debunks your argument but proves that you are arguing with a Mod!

OH NOs!!!  Is a mod actually talking BACK to you?!?!  Is he actually going to kick you for a week because you not only started a useless, negative thread but wouldn't back off???

Geez, if only this situation, collectively and individually, was covered by some governing body or written agreement that each and every member needs to sign before joining A.ORG...

If you don't have anything nice or constructive to say, DON'T!

Only warning.

If you go back to the Electric Cars subforum, there's 19 threads most of which have not even been discussed. Looks to me like a subject of little or no inerest for most. Numbers speak for themselves. As to the fact that these threads aren't showing up, they do show up on the main page just as the Amiga-related ones.

@J-Golden

I guess they are referring to the strangely named 'Top 5 stats' box at the bottom of the main page, rather than the main 'Recent Threads' listing.
This does show the 11 most recently active threads, including CH subforums.
Mac Mini G4 (1.5GHz, 64MB VRam, 1GB Ram): MorphOS 3.6
Powerbook 5.8 (15", 1.67GHz, 128MB VRam, 1GB Ram): MorphOS 3.8.

Windows-free since 2011-2014 (Damn you Netflix!)

They do get a lot of virtual responses which the numbers can't count. I had no idea they were showing up on the main page.

I think people are getting the "New Posts" tab confused with the actual front page.

Coffee House and many other forums don not show up on the front page but ALL threads that have been either started or replied to recently show up in the "New Posts" search.

For example, someone just posted asking Electric Car owners a few questions in the Coffee House/Electric Cars forum.  It does not show up on the main page, but is currently the first listed on the "New Posts" search.

Unfortunately there is no "New Posts on subjects I care about" tab / search.  But that might be something cool to add if we can implement it.

"New Posts" is for members only anyway (It doesn't show up until you log in) so I wonder if there is an add-on that would allow each member to personalize their own "New Posts" search.  If so, then we COULD really get specific with forums and sub forums so people who are mainly interested in Classic Amiga Hardware, Classic Amiga Software, Coffee House/Religion, Aladdin 4D/Tutorials and New User Introductions will only get results from those categories.

The result might even cut down on the flaming, etc. since members would have to actively select those forums to receive new posts.

Just a thought...

I don't normally insert myself in to these kind of discussions..., but why is it so HARD to ignore topics you don't care about???
Just don't click on the Topic and don't REPLY to it, that way, it will be gone from "New Post" and end of story.

Make that 4c. Similar situation as the socialist idealists that complain about free-to-air TV programming. Accept it, or change the channel, or start up your own.

Am I so abnormal for desiring a more detailed filtering on 'News Posts' ? I read daily RSS feeds, several fora, etc. I use custom filters on my RSS feeds; is a desire to have a similar feature on amiga.org 'new posts' so abnormal ?
Trust me...                                              I know what I\'m doing

I use what I have available to me and work with in the limits of the site. It doesn't bother me.

I think people are getting the "New Posts" tab confused with the actual front page.

1) Navigate to http://www.amiga.org/index.php (ie The Actual Front Page);
2) Scroll down to the bottom of the page;
3) Peruse the threads listed in the "Top 5 stats" box;
4) Notice how coffee house threads appear in the lists.

No search is needed. No personalisation is needed. No login is needed. No navigation away from the front page is needed. I can make a screenshot, and draw some arrows and stuff if you like...
