Lyra 2 : incompatibilities with some WHDLoad games ?

Hi everyone !

I just figured out a couple of games (including the Obsession Pinball) behaved in a very strange way with the Lyra 2 PS/2 keyboard adapter, while everything else seems to work like a charm. (I use it for an arcade cabinet : pictures incoming :-)

For instance, keys do not react or take a time to react or stick. If I use the Amiga kb, everthing is all right. The fact that I just hit one key from the PS/2 keyboard puts Obession in a strange state where even the Amiga kb stops working properly. Sometimes, it comes back to normal after a few other keypresses but it even crashed once.

What is really strange is that, in most games, everything works as expected : keys do not stick and are super responsive. Fortunately, Slam Tilt and Pinball Dreams/Fantasies/Illusions work perfectly ;-)

--> my question is : is it a known fact that some whdload games do not work with the Lyra 2 (1200) and what may be the reason ?

Hi ! Well, no problem with Arkanoid nor Revenge of Doh. What shouldn't work ?

Can you try Obsession with your Lyra 2 please ?

I mailed Jens about it. He is not aware of the problem but has an idea what might be wrong. We should try to gather as much data as possible to help him fix it when he's time.

I'll try to find more titles which have issues and check when there are really Lyra 2 specific. (easy as I have both the built in keyboard and the PS/2 connected at the same time)

Meanwhile, can you guys give Obsession a shot ?

If most games work properly with the Lyra, I figured out 3 pinball games do not

- Obsession
- Pinball Prelude
- Pinball Mania

The following ones are OK :

- Dreams - Fantasies - Illusions and thanks god - Slam Tilt

Can you Lyra 2 users confirm those results ?

@Bamiga : Yep, no problem either with Arkanoid. (oops, I mentioned it earlier but after re-reading myself it wasn't clear).

@ Antti : thanks a lot for this test ! If other Lyra others could check too, to see if it happens in 100% of cases.

When you have time, can you give Pinball Prelude a try as well ? :-)


Well, I hope a solution can be found in the future, it's strange nobody reported those issues before.

Thanks for the feedback. This is pretty good as, at least, the bugs seem consistent and 100% reproducible, which should help fix them :-) Well, stll, strange no one seemed aware of this before ?

@ Borut : hmm, there is actually no delay at all on my setup (Lyra 2) with Slam Tilt or any other game. Actually, most games work completely perfectly, but some (those 3 pinball games) are completely unplayable.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure I experienced this once at the very beginning, but, some stuff was unfinished on my cab so I'm not sure it's Lyra related....

As I only play games on this machine, I only noticed the problem on the 3 pinballs, so far. But please continue to share you issues with us here, so we can try to reproduce them and report back to Jens !

Thanks for the feedback. Meanwhile, I found one more incompatible game : Ultimate Pinball Quest.
