Bad HD (720p) video play back

Hi PC gurus,

I'm having a few issues playing back 720p MKV files on my computer (might be other 720p files but I only have mkv). The sound plays fine but the video skips and jumps using VLC. My computer is:

CPU: Pentium 4 2.4Ghz
RAM: 2GB DDR2
Grapics Card: GeForce 4 Ti 4200 128MB (AGP)
OS: Win XP Pro

l answer about the graphics card as l have one these too , if you update to 6600 or even better the 7800 both cheap second hand you game play be way better l noticed this with half life 2 .
l also tryed to run xbox360 hd dvd addon through xp and p 2.6 p4 oh is it hypewr treading whould help it whoudint really play on this set
l tryed on my nephews dual core e7300 cpu and gforce 9600 went so wel so maybe upgrade your system

also you chould try tversity software thats if you have xbox360 or psx3 and just stream vids to your tv much easier  music and such also

hope this is some help the p4 set up you have is still fine though l have 2 such systems
add extra ram helps and your ram should ddr 400
