Hi,
I'm looking at picking up a Mac G4 on which to give MorphOS 2.6 a try, but I'm a bit stumped as to what model I should be looking at.
The MorphOS website mentions Power Macs 3,1 3,2 3,3 3,4 3,5 & 3,6, but how does this correspond to actual Apple Model numbers?
I'm a little confused and don't want to end up buying something that won't work.
Any help or pointers to lists, etc, would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Mike.

I'm not certain, but I believe the supported hardware is something like...
any G4 Mac mini
any G4 tower
1.25GHz or 1.42Ghz eMac
The 1.42GHz eMac is not officially supported, but as far as I can tell, it's identical to the 1.25GHz model in everything except clock speed.

An easier way to look at this (w/o using model #s).
1) All G4 Mac Minis.
2) 1.25 Ghz eMacs* with Radeon 9200 graphics (some educational models and all 1.42 Ghz models use Radeon 9600 - may work, but no 3D support) *Please note that there also is a 1.0 GHz variant of this model that was released exclusively to education.
3) All G4 AGP Powermacs (with a supported Apple video card or a supported video card that has been re-flashed with an Apple BIOS).

Hi folks - first time I've posted here in over six months so apologies if I'm somewhat behind the curve.
Are G4 iBooks ever likely to be supported?
Cheers,

They're not saying much, but hints suggest no. Not sure why, though - the last of the G4 iBooks are nearly identical to the PowerBooks they're supporting.

well if the ethernet is not working it's not worth it.
Unless if you happen to have a spare Realtek RTL8139C network card.

Confirmed that MorphOS 2.7 works on Mac G4 450Mhz Cube, http://www.morphzone.org/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?topic_id=6835&forum=11&start=20
By me. That's one of those funny looking pre-MacMini thingys, (http://files6.fliiby.com/images/_original/o7blyjjenq.png)
The cube doesn't have onboard sound, AFAIK the Cube's external USB sound system dosn't work, I don't have one to test so unable to confirm.

Will a dual 500 work?

Er.. Probably, the Sonnet series of accelerators for the PowerMacs seem to work OK, If you've already got one, try the Live CD, but I can't recommend you buy one :rtfm: just, you know, in case.

IIRC, only the very last model of the G4 iBook has USB driven touchpad, like the supported G4 PowerBooks. They might decide to support that one G4 iBook model, but probably not any of the other iBooks. Matt is right when he says that there is no word on this from the MorphOS Dev. Team.
I am hoping that the next version of MorphOS will be available before my trip to AmiWest this year, and that it will support the G4 PowerBooks at that time. We will just have to wait and see what is supported and when it the next release will arrive.

I should download the cd and try my dual 1.42 powermac but its still under the desk gathering dust.

You need a ATI Radeon to boot MorphOS, an ATI Rage would also work maybe even a Voodoo.
Offcourse only Mac-cards or PC-cards reflashed with a Mac-BIOS will do the trick.
