Amiga games with midi support
« on: September 24, 2011, 12:22:54 AM »
As you perhaps already know some Amiga Sierra adventures got midi support (Larry 5, Space Quest IV, and King's Quest V)

The other day I tried War Zone:

http://hol.abime.net/1665/manual

I need help to get the midi stuff to run. The above sierra games run from hd and during installation you can choose midi.

War Zone has no install routine, and the manual says "just connect your midi stuff" - doesn't work so far (tested it using Winuae + usb hardware midi). Can anybody give it a try?

It would be great to get it to run, perhaps other ports from Atari ST have also midi support on Amiga?

Thanks for your help!

Lutz

Are you sure it's actually MIDI-compatible? It looks like they just copied and pasted the exact same text (in a different layout, weirdly enough) for the two descriptions, maybe they forgot to remove an ST-specific MIDI mention?
Computers: Amiga 1200, DEC VAXStation 4000/60, DEC MicroPDP-11/73
Synthesizers: Roland JX-10/MT-32/D-10, Oberheim Matrix-6, Yamaha DX7/FB-01, Korg MS-20 Mini, Ensoniq Mirage/SQ-80, Sequential Circuits Prophet-600, Hohner String Performer

No ;) but on ST. The midi-out port of the Amiga? But why mentioning midi in the manual (for amiga), when it's not midi compatible?

BTW: The Amiga Box of "Rise Of the Dragon" (Sierra) got a MT-32 Sticker... But the game has no midi support on Amiga..

Well, that's what the other poster is saying ... it's just a mistake carried over from the Atari ST instructions.  The Ataris all came with a built-in MIDI port.  Perhaps they forgot to remove that line in the Amiga instructions - they just did a simple cut an paste or something.  I suppose you wouldn't know until you actually hooked up some MIDI hardware, then!

You can cut out one variable by doing away with the USB MIDI box on WinUAE. In the settings, just route the serial port to Windows' default (software) MIDI interface.

Still, though, I suspect that's a misprint in the instructions.

Checked in the UAE-Session that the midi stuff works with Space Quest IV before - but I will try...

Perhaps I should give my real Amiga 1200 + Interface a go? But I think the results with the emu are pretty much the same like "the real thing"

Has anybody midi stuff connected to the amiga and can check it too?

Well - I also suspect its a "bug" in the manual. I wonder how the ST handles the stuff (without sound setup in the game) using native and midi sound the same time?
